Small suited connectors in EP?

Postby MHFlush » Mon Sep 19, 2005 2:28 am

Many people here play any pair and AK in EP, limp with them and mostly call a raise with them.

Well, if you play 22 from EP then it might be also possible to play the small connectors like 87s from EP and call a raise. If I flop something nice with it I can get the whole stack of my opponent. It is equally easy like no set-no bet to throw the connectors away after the flop.

Thoughts?

I playem this way. I prefer it if the pot is raised though so I can put opponent on a big pair.

If everyone limps, I play a lot more cautiously.

It's definitely equally easy to throw them away, and I've also played them a lot from EP, although I'm not doing that currently. I definitely prefer 87s to AQ as EP hand.

The reason I've backed up again to only PP and AK is that I really find the semi-bluff much more powerful with position. The pot is bigger, and you get a free card if you want it.

Anyhow, I certainly wouldn't say that it's any kind of mistake to play them in EP, but I don't find them nearly as powerful and find it hard to believe that they're much better than marginal there (and possibly even leaky) under most conditions.

I don't really like playing connectors out of position unless I've raised up the pot myself. Occasionlly I wil raise connectors out of EP just to vary my play.

If I raise them preflop I have the advantage of aggression (continuation beting and winning decent pots) and the benefit of a well disguised hand.

How about this:
limp with SC's and call a raise with a "3/7" rule, just as you do with PPs and a "5/10" rule.

Semi-bluffing from EP as a limp-caller has low fold-equity and a SC won't hit more than ca 5% of flops. But it will be somewhat unexpected.
