Slowplaying the Flop

Postby mecha » Wed Aug 17, 2005 10:25 pm

Both villans in this hand are regulars i see often and are decent. I would not slow play either of their hands on the flop, yet both of them did and paid dearly for it.

Villan MP1 vpip 10% / pfr 2% Hand: 22
Villan SB vpip 20% / pfr 1% Hand: K8

My question is: Did they play their hands correctly? do you check this flop with their hands?

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (8 handed)

UTG+1 ($87.30)

MP2 ($210.85)
CO ($157.40)
Button ($61.75)
SB ($195.65)
BB ($437.75)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [5h], [5s].
1 fold, MP1 raises to $4, 3 folds, SB calls $3, BB calls $2, Hero calls $4.

Flop: ($16) [2d], [Ks], [Kc] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, MP1 checks.

Turn: ($16) [5c] (4 players)
SB checks, BB bets $16, Hero raises to $48, MP1 folds, SB calls $48, BB calls $32.

River: ($160) [7s] (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets $160, Hero bets $160, SB calls $143.65 (All-In), BB calls $0.

Final Pot: $623.65

K8 cannot feel THAT comfortable on that flop, and if I'm 22 I'm betting and praying Kx would play back at me. If 22 played his hand right your out on the flop and he has K8's stack.

Imagine the faces of 22 and K8 at the end of this one.

I think one of the differences between decent players and good players is the way they play trips. K8 here is nice and all but slow playing this is a mortal sin especialy with 3 players in the pot. Everyone seems to like to play K10, KJ, KQ, even K9. With trips like this it is not that hard to be way behind. I bet that flop everytime and consider folding to a big reraise from a good player. 22 on this board I wouldnt slow play but I can see his point, for him Kx is most likely going to put all their chips in anyways, so slowplaying and letting someone else make something isnt as horrible a play.
