Hi all,
I am rereading the theory of poker because I think my play is going downhill.
As in many books they all give you a way to play certain situations but they hardly ever give you an advice if a player plays back on you.
Chapter 3 example 6
This is a situation where 3 players are in the pot ( including you ).
You have the nuts straight one player went all in and it is $200 to call a $500 pot.
If you raise to $400 the player next to you will propably fold his two pair on which you are sure he has.
So if you call $200 the other player is getting 7 to 2 odds on a 10-1 situation to improve his two pair . So he would be making a mistake ( theorie of poker ) by calling.
Question 1~~ Would all of you NL players play like this or would you have betted the pot shutting him out.~
Ok you called the $200 and so did your opponent. Now the river pairs the board.
In the example your opponent made a smal bet and you ( sklansky ) called.
Paying off a small bet is not such a problem.
question 2 ~~~What if this player makes a real bet like half, 3-4 or the whole pot.
What size of bet would you call against an average or above average player.
In the long haul you would make money by folding I think because you have more odds of him not flopping his pair.
These situations make the difference between normal and good NL players I am curious what your awnser is to the 2 questions.
