set of Queens facing action

Postby ua1176 » Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:41 am

$20 NL @ Prima

cutoff raises to $.080, and i call from the BB with [Qh] [Qc]. he's loose and aggressive so i don't feel the need to take him out of the lead quite so soon. he's got a $19 stack and i have $25 or so.

flop: [Qs] [Tc] [4s]
pot size: $1.70

um....sweet. can't get much better than this. i check...cause he'll bet.

CO bets $1
i raise to $4
CO thinks for a while and calls.

turn: [9c]
pot size: $9.70

i lead for $6
CO min-raises to $12..........

the dreaded minraise. what do i do? he could have KJ for the straight. but he could just as easily have a lower set or some weird draw. who knows.

what would y'all put him on, and how would you play this hand out? thoughts + comments appreciated....thanks.

Think he'd raise pre-flop with KJ?

Looks like a flush draw to me. Maybe a straight draw. Put him in.

Oh, miniraise doesn't mean a monster at lower limits like this. In this case, it means he's a LAG with a draw or a pair who wants to pay as little as possible to see if he can get you to fear a monster and fold.

Lastly, to paraphrase Ice's advice: "Never fold a set in a raised pot unless there's an obvious straight or flush on the board." At NL$20, it takes 4 cards on board or 3 and a TON of action to be obvious. This doesn't qualify.

And even in the unlikely event he has KJ, you still have 10 outs to your boat or quads...

the guy doesn't have much left so I push all in. It will cost you about another $8 total for a $30 pot ($38 including your $8). That is almost 4:1 which is almost the odds you need to hit your boat. Add in the chance the hands he could have that aren't KJ, and this is a +EV play. He is just as likely to have QT as KJ.
