Set HU On Flush Board

Postby T-Rod » Mon Nov 07, 2005 2:47 pm

$100NL 6-max Party. Villain has 3/4 stack and has been VERY loose and he LOVES to min raise pf. He regularly bets on the flop.

In EP Villain raises x4 and I call with 5[s] 5[d]. X4BB is bigger than his usual raise. We are HU and I have position.

Flop K[s] 2[s] 5[h]. Villain checks. I check.

Does anyone else like checking here? You risk him getting a free card to the flush, but he was the pfr and its HU(ie flush unlikely). He checked saying he doesn't have a K. Isn't this a WA/WB scenario?

Or how about a 1/2 pot bet? Details to come

I think I would bet there. With a set I don't worry about the way behind case. If he has KK he can have my 3/4 stack. If he has a smaller pp there, you might not make money anyway. Does he want to chk-raise with AA/AK? Bet into him. If he doesn't like his hand you won't make too much money anyway. And you want to build the pot, you can't stack him if you don't build the pot.

He had the lead pre-flop and doesn't bet into you with a CB? Odd and very weak -etiher he has nothinh and has bottled the CB or a monster and is trying to lure you in. I think I bet 1/2-2/3 of pot and make it look like a probe bet. If he came over the top it might be crying call time

Now if I had led pre-flop and hit a set, then I think about a check..

#3 does apply to alot of 6 maxers though.

I would bet most of the time because I would bet no matter what I had if I called his raise and he checked it to me.

But I dont mind a check if I think it will make him bet any turn.

Well most of you answered my real question is you don't really fear giving the free card. YOu are more concerned with building a pot.

Turn--brick. He checked, I bet full pot and he min raised me.

I pushed all-in and he folded. He whined for 5 minutes asking what I had (I didn't show). He says he folded KQ.

My point is building a pot is great, but some of these guys are so bad (like checking with KQ) that you can acutally get them to play for their stack by just being a bit different.
