Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.50 BB (10 handed)

MP3 ($16.65)
CO ($18.75)
Button ($14.60)
SB ($54.67)
Hero ($64.05)
UTG ($84.20)
UTG+1 ($72.75)
UTG+2 ($24.50)
MP1 ($24.50)
MP2 ($31.50)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Qs], [9d].
UTG calls $0.50, 2 folds, MP1 calls $0.50, 2 folds, CO calls $0.50, 1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($2.50) [Th], [Kd], [Jd] (5 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $2.5, UTG calls $2.50, MP1 calls $2.50, CO folds, SB folds.

Turn: ($10) [3h] (3 players)
Hero bets $9, UTG calls $9, MP1 folds.

River: ($28) [5h] (2 players)
Hero ?

Villain was a semi loose player and hadn't done anything wrong of note. I wasn't worried about AQ since he would probably have raised the flop and most certainly the turn. So whats he got and what do I do?

Well you either believe he has the flush or you don't. Since it is a backdoor flush I think it much less likely, but I am certainly not betting this river. I would check-call a reasonable bet.

I think he has either QJ or Q10.....maybe QK.....I don't think he has the flush, and I don't think you are behind. I would bet about $15.

Im torn between betting $15 and check/calling.

He shouldve raised the flop or turn with 2 pair or better. If you check, he might bet a busted draw but he will check behind with a marginal hand like KQ

I really dont know what he has but KQ is the closest I can come to putting him on a hand. I think I bet $15.

I put him on a missed diamond flush draw so I check call pretty much whatever he bets.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I checked hoping he would throw out a bluff....I say a bluff because I thought I was 99.9% in the lead. He pushed, I called just about to celebrate doubling through when he flipped his cards and the pot went sailing toward him. The table gasped.

Unless Im reading it wrong, villain want short stacked. Villain had $72 left and hero had $52 left.

I think you have to fold to that big of a bet. Alot of people will overbet the nuts there. I wouldnt have thought he had [Ah][9h], bu I wouldve been really worried that he had [Kh][Qh]. The pot was $28 and when he pushed it was $52 to you. I think you have to fold. If he bluffed you, so be it.

QUESTION GUYS

I used to play this exactly like Hero, and I used to lose lots of money. Two pot sized bets and now I can't get away from my hand on the river.

Nowadays I play it on the turn where I'm either bettng x2 the pot (trying to end it right there) OR I check even though I put him on a draw.

The big bet usually stops anything but the insane must draw at all cost types so I've really made him pay.
OR
The check allows me to get away from my hand much easier when I see lots of heat on the river with the downside of giving him a free card.

Lowered my variance which helped my mental game
Thoughts?
