Raising On the flop

Postby Zuccala » Sat Sep 10, 2005 10:15 am

Hello, This morning I called a few PF raises with 88,99,TT. Now onthese flops there was only one overcard and the PF raiser made a conttinuation bet of about 1/2 the pot. Am I giving up 2 much if I am folding here. Should I raise to see where he is at?? Then if he plays back at me drop??Any opinion would be great!

Ha, the old poker maxim of "it depends" rings here.

I think you need to use some knowledge of the players you are against here. If the guy plays every hand raising 20% of them then I am firing across his bows. If it is the rock who has raised for the first time in 100 hands then I am set of bust. Everything in between really comes down to feel. If you think there is a good chance you are ahead also don't be afraid to lead in sometimes.

You did mention too that there might be one overcard. Personally I feel better about being aggressive here if there are no face cards showing. You need to pick you players and flops carefully, and not get too glued to the hand if the action hots up.

Remember too, think about your table image. I find this works best for me when I have been pretty cold decked since my bet or raise looks more ominous then if I have been running hot and firing bets and raises all over the shop.

If you're out of position...you could always lead out in front of them. that scares the fish :)
