Push Too Hard?

Postby BKAZ » Tue Feb 20, 2007 8:44 pm

I have dropped down to NL$50 as my ability to move money is non existent and I only had ~500 in Prima when the Neteller apocalypse occurred. Only been at the table a short time had 20 hands on MP2 15/0/0, had 45 hands on Button and he was 33/10/1.5. Not much as reads go. What do you guys think? Too week on the flop? Too much on the turn?

Out of interest, why do you think bet bigger on the flop?

Thanks Xaston, don't get me wrong I completely understand the theory and have increased my preflop raise slightly in most cases for this exact reason, however in this specific case the stacks are not deep, any bet 1/2 pot and larger is enough initially to allow an all in with solid bets on the turn and river.

Now at the lower limits, most of the players are not thinking beyond their own hand much, they don't see a bet relative to the size of the pot, they see a bet of $7 and might be tempted to call with a weak hand or draw. Often once you have someone involved, its easy to string along to the river.

So I am asking specifically about this case, why is a pot size bet on the flop better than a 1/2 or maybe 2/3 (which would probably be my preferred size)?

Against a thinking player, they are not going to call either bet without a strong Q or decent pocket pair etc. But against an average villain, I think dangling the rope to allow them to get involved and hang themselves is a good move.
