I agree with these posts and deal with these same issues, still. If I get a huge bad beat put on me, I do not change my demeanor or face or allow anyone to know it bothers me, which is doesn't very much. My goal is to take a bad beat better than anyone they have ever seen. To show emotion when you lose your stack is the mark of a sucker. Gloating when you win a big pot or giving the winner's speech is the mark of a sucker.

Poker players need to be wary of the way other people see your money. Don't loan. Don't pay more than your share unless you want to. People see you as lazy since you don't work. People gossip about the bankroll you tote which can get you robbed or killed.

The public see poker players with this love/hate thing. The new image is wonderful. Don't people look up to you? They are curious. Do they ask nosy questions? Do they want you to teach them how to play? Stake them? Loan them? Do you tell your non poker friends when you are running good or bad? Johnny Hughes

I agree with your points about keeping a good demeanor after winning or losing big Johnny. When I started playing cards a few years ago me and a group of buddies would always play a wild, out of control game. With initial buyins being $10 usually, we played .25/.50 NLHE or NLO. What started as a small game would usually turn out to have pots well into the hundreds by the end of the night, as one or more of us would go on megatilt and start buying in for more than what the chipleader had. Thus, it became more of a psychological game than anything else, and I was the one least able to control my temper. If I got sucked out on, I would absolutely go beserk and pretty soon tilt became a normal thing for me.

Sadly, I still do go on tilt at times. It's very rare now though, and even so, I can manage to play my C game, which is a hell of a lot better than my F game. I've begun to see things from a greater perspective and am happy to say that after the rough day I had about a week ago (posted earlier in this thread), I've rebounded nicely and am up a grand this week. My swings can be pretty steep but I am convinced that as long as I play solid poker and don't take any shots above my bankroll, I should be a winner over the long run, and that's all that really matters.

Kenny this is a very good old post, I started to read it and saw TUP and had to check the date.

I dont know if its the way I play or the difference between playing live vs online but my % of winning sessions is much lower than everyone else's. I win about 60 % of the time I play live. Though a lot of my loses are between 0 and 200, where a lot of my winning days are much larger. I started my spreadsheet for live play 2 years ago february. Since then I have 18 sessions where I have made over $600 and only 2 where I have lost more than $600. The worst variance I have ever run into was 8.5 buy ins at the $200 live game I was playing at the time. That was over 12 sessions and 5 weeks. I am happy to say that that was my only losing sessions in the 19 months I have kept track of and hopefully my only one ever. Knock on wood.

A total hijack but does anyone know what happened to Mad Genius??
