Pot Limit Holdem, why play it?

Postby Burning Man » Tue Nov 01, 2005 11:12 pm

I enjoy playing Holdem so much, that I accept the constraints of PL in order to lower my variance and extend my bankroll as I learn. The opportunity to draw to straights and flushes at pot odds is a wonderful added benifit. The next time you are working on your table selection at the PP $25 NL/PL, look at the PL tables. "Right Now", 10:00PM on a Tues they are better, there's 10 tables with a $12+ pot avg, top table is $19, tell me that isn't a honey hole with a quarter BB. If you have skills, in pot limit you have more time to use them, if you dont it works out as more time to learn.

As a preface to tonights PL hand, TJ Cloutier says that "3 raises is AA a pure as Ivory Snow", Phil Gordon says, "that 4 raises are 99.99% pure aces". A PL player thinks, Hmmmm, dems some damm fine implied odds to draw to a set with!!

Me in S6 AA YEEHAW
S4 makes it 2 bet, I call
S7 makes it 4 bets S4 calls
I make it 16 bets and they both call
Flop (Q K 9) DAMM, tell me there aint a set in there, nevermind the straight
check check S7 bets 16 BB call call
blank drops on the turn
check, I check, a 1/2 pot bet, and then the allin
audios hombres, yes he called and yes they both had sets!

In NL I would have beeen broke, instead PL gives me the chance to minimize my losses.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

Godlike,

I really liked pot limit. I used to do quite better at PL$25 than NL$25 in party poker. I really didnt know why but it probably has something to do with worse players.

Does prima has PL$100? what other sites has PL$100?
