Even online I have a pretty good idea of the regulars at Prima. Some of them I'm friendly with even though I never lose sight of trying to break them. A select few of them I know them outside of online, have drank coffee or even played them in person, I am trying to break them too. Being my only source of income I never lose touch that everyone is my foe, no matter how much I like them. This is the nasty side of poker, it is not a game for a closest philanthropist that has less interest in breaking people he likes than people he is indifferent too. I may get involved in hands with "friends" but I should try to take as much money off them as possible.

You are on the right track as to how to play hard against people that are friendly. There are people that I genuinely like at the casino, but I have no friends at the table no matter how civil or joking I might get. AT THE CARD TABLE YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS. If they mistake you for a friend that is their flaw.

My regulars online, I've taken careful to note what it likely takes to defeat them, the situations that they consistently over play. Whether they are LAG or TAG I try to consider each day as a new one, and make sure they are playing to what I suspect and then work from there. You will find LAGs that tighten down and TAGs that get cute, if you adapt properly you should do fine. The toughest is when the game becomes swapping $x-the rake waiting for a fish or two to sit. There are stakes that this is not possible and it will be a losing proposition, and at least online I seek a new game, live I think you have to leave and come back later or request a table change to the floor ASAP.
