Playing Sets Too Slowly

2 Examples I've thought about recently where I lost potential action on a set I had made on flop. I limp with KK in EP and it's called by a few players and checked in the BB. Dang it!

The flop comes down K-Q-2 rainbow. I feel better already about my limp. I check and a LP player bets out about 2/3 pot. I smooth call him. Turn comes an Ace so our board now reads K-Q-2-A. I don't have the nuts anymore, but I still beat everything but J-10. He bets it pretty hard again and I decided to smooth call again. (I'm not too sure what I was doing besides having an extreme case of FTS). The river comes a J. There is no flush possible. In disgust, I check and my luckily my opponent checks behind me and shows 22. I take down the pot but am just DISGUSTED with myself. There's no way my opponent lays down 22 in an unraised pot on the flop if we get in a raising war. Seems like I played myself out of a whole stack.

Second hand was last night on FTP. This was .5/1. There are a couple of limpers to me and I have 22 in the BB and I check. The flop comes down [Qc][9c][2d]. I bet the pot ($5) and am raised to $15 by a LP player. Again, I smooth call. Looking back this was a terrible play. There are straight and flush draws and I'm giving my opponent nice odds to draw to something with this call. Turn is a K and I check again. I still figure my hand is best as I beat most everything even though J-10 is now a straight. My opponent bets a very small amount (I'm assuming he was scared I might have the straight). I flat called him and the board paired jacks on the end. I bet the pot and was paid off by Q-9 but I'm sure I left money on the table because I highly doubt he'd lay down top 2 on the flop. Thoughts?
