BB play

Postby odogg » Tue Aug 30, 2005 1:33 pm

Very aggressive table. 200 NL and I have about 250 dollars. I sit in the BB with QQ. UTG+2 (350) who has been raising a lot of hands and pushing people out after the flop makes it 7 to go. The button and I call.

Do you reraise with QQ out of the BB?

Flop comes 422 with 2 clubs. 21 in the pot

I know full well that he is going to stab at it so I take the initiative and fire 15 at it. He min raises me to 30. I most times assume a mini raise is asking for a free card. I call and take the turn.

4s. 81 in the pot.

I take a second and figure this is a scare card. I could be in the BB with a 4 or a 2 considering the play at the table. I also have a overpair which may also be good.

I fire 50 at the pot which is a reasonable bet if I did have a 4 or a 2.

Hate this play?

I like the play. If he reraises yoru turn bet though I'm probably done.

I don't think I reraise out of the BB. Hate the position and now you have pot escalation.

This hand is screaming to be re-raised preflop. You have a raiser that could have a wide variety of hands, and a caller in between. Raise it up to build a pot and define your hand. I guarantee you this - if you raise preflop - you are going to find out if he has AA or KK for a lot cheaper than the way you played it. Once you take a flop against this guy, and it comes 422 - you're going to showdown, and its likely going to cost you a stack if you're wrong. There is at least a chance that you can get away from the hand if you re-raise preflop. No chance once you decide to slowplay.

As for the post-flop play - do you think you're ahead? If so, why lead into him? You said he has been pushing people out of the pot, so go for the check-raise. This way, the button will act between you and UTG, and extra money will get trapped in.

On the turn - once again, are you trying to get him to fold? You seem to want to represent the 4, but is that even believeable for you? Do you call raises with hands that have 4's in them?

Personally, I think that once you call preflop, you have made the decision that he does not have AA or KK. Try to get the money all-in - I think you should have re-raised all-in on the flop.

This hand is just strange to me - you seem to be trying to bluff, but you actually have a good hand, so you dont need to bluff, you want to get his money.
