Party NL50 Are You Kidding Me ?!?

Postby LottaFagina » Wed Sep 14, 2005 12:14 am

Keep in mind that earlier today I raised PF with AA got 2 callers and ended up losing my stack to one of them who flopped 2 pair (QJo). It's almost like unless you push all-in PF, a BB will cold call anything to defend their fifty cents.

Party Poker No-Limit $50 Hold'em, (9 handed)

CO ($94.25)
Button ($107.18)
SB ($67.20)
BB ($25.75)
UTG ($62.85)
UTG+1 ($50)
MP1 ($22.50)
MP2 ($68.15)
Hero ($70.75)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with [Ac], [Ad]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
1 fold, MP1 raises to $2, 1 fold, Hero raises to $5, 3 folds, BB calls $4.50, MP1 calls $3.

MP1 is an idiot who through about 100 games is VP$IP=51%, PFR=8%. BB is an unknown as he just sat down about 4 hands ago. I debated pushing here preflop, but was hoping to isolate the idiot caller. BB threw a wrench into that as he was the unknown.

Flop: ($15.25) [4c], [6s], [9d] (4 players)
BB calls $20.75 (All-In), MP1 calls $17.50 (All-In), Hero folds.

BB loves this hand?!? The only thing I can reasonably put him on here after the PF cold call is 99 for the set. Idiot calls so who knows what he's got. I'm still thinking about the 2 pair incident earlier today, so I play it safe and lay down my bullets.

Turn: ($53.50) [Th] (3 players, 2 all-in)

River: ($53.50) [Ks] (3 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: $53.50

After that Turn and River, I'm expecting to see a set of either Nines, Tens or Kings. But wait:

Results in white below:
BB has 9c Jc (one pair, nines).
MP1 has As Qc (high card, ace).
Outcome: BB wins $53.50.

Are you kidding me?!? Of course I made a mistake in folding on this hand, but is it reasonable to lay down in this situation? If I was on the other side and had hit my set, I'd have played it perhaps the same way. Should I have put BB on a larger pocket pair which he thought was good or thought about the flopped 2 pair and/or set? I know I'm setting myself up here, but go ahead and rip me one...

Raise it to $7 preflop. If you still get 2 callers, the pot will be $21 and the BB will only be pushing $18. I will still go all in on this flop as you are beating enough hands and at least you might collect the side pot to get some money back

I take back my statement about having AA cracked by 2 pair. I was mistaken - I got straighted and setted. This was the AA hand I should have laid down instead of calling 2 all-ins.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed)

Hero ($49.50)
BB ($124.68)
UTG ($127)
UTG+1 ($51.50)
UTG+2 ($42.35)
MP1 ($72.70)
MP2 ($65.97)
MP3 ($52.60)
CO ($47.75)
Button ($28.30)

Preflop: Hero is SB with [Ah], [Ac]. Hero posts a blind of $0.25.
6 folds, CO raises to $2, Button calls $2, Hero (poster) raises to $5.75, 1 fold, CO calls $4, Button calls $4.

Flop: ($18.50) [Js], [Td], [9c] (3 players)
Hero bets $23, CO calls $41.75 (All-In), Button calls $22.30 (All-In), Hero calls $18.75.

Turn: ($124.30) [Kd] (3 players, 2 all-in)

River: ($124.30) [4c] (3 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: $124.30

Results in white below:
Hero has Ah Ac (one pair, aces).
CO has 9h 9d (three of a kind, nines).
Button has Qd Qc (straight, king high).
Outcome: Button wins $85.40. CO wins $38.90.

Agree with Brian. Make it $7 preflop, or even a bit more. The guy with the 4x raise loves his hand, make him pay to see any cards.

If I can get $8 or $9 in preflop against stacks this short with AA, I'll effectively consider myself pot committed (unless the flop is TERRIBLE -- KQJ or KQQ or something). I'm going to bet 3/4 pot to full pot on the flop and the rest on the turn, unless I'm bet into in which case I'm pushing it all in on the flop. No matter what cards they're playing, you've made it unprofitable for them to play the hand already with your huge PF raise relative to their stack sizes. Don't out-think yourself afterwards and fold.
