Party $100NL = WTF

Postby T-Rod » Wed Aug 31, 2005 9:28 pm

I'm still dumbfounded how many crazy players there are at the party 100NL level. I know 6-max is pretty loose but man. This hand below was typical.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

Hero ($279.10)
SB ($102.30)
BB ($114.60)
UTG ($116.90)
MP ($111.70)
CO ($134)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [6h], [Th]. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
3 folds, Hero raises to $2, SB (poster) calls $1.50, BB calls $1.

Flop: ($6) [Td], [Tc], [3h] (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $3, SB raises to $6, BB folds, Hero calls $3.

Turn: ($18) [Qh] (2 players)
SB bets $20, Hero raises to $40, SB calls $20.

River: ($98) [Kh] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $55, SB calls $54.30 (All-In).

Final Pot: $207.30

Results in white below:
SB has Jh Qd (two pair, queens and tens).
Hero has 6h Th (flush, king high).
Outcome: Hero wins $207.29.

Alex--I agree with limiting bluffs, especially at very loose tables. Funny, at $50NL if I BTP most people are folding. At $100NL, if I BTP I will get tons of callers with nothing because they assume that strong bet is a bluff. This regularly happens. I now bet 2/3 the pot and get more people folding (the same ones who call with nothing to a full pot bet). ??? huh

As far as civil engineers go, I bet you'd be worth more than 700 in New Orleans right now. Where are you anyway?

Here's another goofy fact that worked about a zillion times but shouldn't.

Hero has [Ks] [Qd]

Flop is [Kd] [6s] [2s] . 3 in the hand. Hero checks in EP with intention to check raise and also mix up his play from bettng the pot all the time. I'm prepared to give a free card to the flush and let go if someone makes their hand. It's checked all around.

Turn is a [Jc]. Hero leads with 2/3 sized bet. 2 callers. Must be drawing to flush right?

River is [8s] completing flush. Hero checks, MP checks, LP bets 1/3 of pot. Hero check raises x4 his bet. Stupid right! LP is value betting his flush! WRONG.

LP calls with [Jh] [4h].

Huh? I guess their thought process was once its checked no one could have a the K and oh flush draws don't count?

You'd get killed playing the way I did at a different level. But I got called doing this at least a dozen times where people call with WPWK when they are beat multiple ways?

I'm almost afraid to play at this level for fear of developing awful habits!
