Overpair vs a Tightwad

Postby briachek » Thu Aug 18, 2005 3:59 pm

Would you lay this down, call or raise?
If you don't know, TW is a LAG especially in NL where he doesn't know what he's doing  He was doing well so far when he sucked out with JJ with a J on the river to stack a guy that slow played his flopped set.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

UTG ($96.10)
UTG+1 ($121.40)
MP1 ($211.15) Tightwad
MP2 ($114.10)
MP3 ($93.50)
CO ($38.40)
Hero ($103)
SB ($13.20)
BB ($124.75)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Ts], [Th]. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
2 folds, MP1 raises to $3, 3 folds, Hero calls $3, 2 folds.

Flop: ($7.50) [4h], [8s], [4s] (2 players)
MP1 bets $4, Hero raises to $12, MP1 raises to $25, Hero ???

If I beat him this hand, its expected. If he stacks me, he will never let me or anyone forget it.

Basically you're talking about the implied humiliation odds? It kind of makes sense... you're risking a small amount of money (your stack) for a chance at a huge amount of humiliation-credit.

The real reason not to talk to the hot chick is to instead talk to her not-quite-as-hot-but-still-hot-enough friend who will be much more appreciative of the attention and probably has a nicer personality as well as being a lot more open to intimate relations.
