One bad play

Postby AlamedaMike » Fri Sep 09, 2005 11:08 am

Good morning - I played 124 hands this morning and this is the only hand that I think I played badly.

VP$IP 20% and W$SD 57%

FullTiltPoker Game #212404384: Table Carter - $0.25/$0.50 - No Limit Hold'em

Seat 1: GermanBrew ($19.75)
Seat 2: AlamedaMike ($47.45)
Seat 4: lil lisa1 ($27.40)
Seat 5: Shadowbxr ($31.30)
Seat 7: nome05 ($11.10)
Seat 8: Talle ($24.45)
Seat 9: -4WS-Madman ($45.15), is sitting out
GermanBrew posts the small blind of $0.25
AlamedaMike posts the big blind of $0.50
The button is in seat #8

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Dealt to AlamedaMike [Js] [Qd]

*** PREFLOP ***

lil lisa1 raises to $1, 4 folds, AlamedaMike calls $0.50

*** FLOP *** [3s] [4d] [Qs]

AlamedaMike bets $2.25, lil lisa1 calls $2.25

*** TURN *** [Tc]

AlamedaMike checks, lil lisa1 bets $3, AlamedaMike calls $3

Bad call here? I should have raised or folded here I think. Either he has a better kicker or 2 pair. I looked and saw not obvious draws and said 'okay, who has the better kicker?'

Comments.

*** RIVER *** [Ac]

AlamedaMike checks, lil lisa1 bets $5

He must have caught his Ace. Mini-bet here.

AlamedaMike calls $5

*** SHOW DOWN ***

lil lisa1 shows [Kd] [Ad] (a pair of Aces)

AlamedaMike mucks

lil lisa1 wins the pot ($21.65) with a pair of Aces

I think on this hand there were 2 mistakes. One was calling a raise with a weak hand out of position. And two was betting TPMK.

I think calling the mini-raise here might be okay if and only if I decided to play better after the flop.

Better in this case means 2 pair or better on the flop.

Since the odds to get 2-pair are fairly high, something like 55-1 I should have just mucked before the flop and be done with the hand. It would have cost me 50 cents?

This is being selective and aggressive, IHMO.

I think the mini preflop raise call is fine. Min raises preflop can represent a whole variety of hands.

Flop bet isn't bad..gives you some info.....

on the turn you keep the pot small by checking.. i like your call because your out of position. theres a good chance you still have the best hand...

river it's time to fold. if he didn't have you beat before, hes gotcha beat now. I don't think 3-1 odds justify the call.

I am wary of mini-raises until I have a few notes and would prob fold until I have a reason to play. I think the lack of position and the possibility of AA or KK makes it not worth it as often the worse thing is you hitting that TP and becoming too stick to the hand. Experiance speaking...

Otherwise I guess you need to make a decision when playing with that TP on whether you think you have the best hand or not. If I am going to bet that flop to say I have the best hand then I am prob going to bet the turn too assuming nothing scary falls. Your lead muddies the waters and puts an unconnected AK hand in a bind on both streets. It is tough situation and I think this why information about the player is so important.

On the river I am not calling the bet since there are very few raising hands you are beating here. Better to save the dollars for a time when you feel good about it.
