Now what ($100 NL 6-max)

Postby k3nt » Mon Jan 01, 2007 11:41 pm

$100 NL 6-max Stars.

I raise TT to $4 utg, BB is the only caller. No reads. I have $140 or so and he covers.

Flop $8.50 is [Tc][3s][2s]. :D

BB leads $2. I pop it to $10. He reraises the minimum to $18. I reraise to $50. He calls.

Turn $108.50 is [8s]. :x He checks.

Now I go back and say to myself WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST PUSH THE FLOP? Or at least reraise to $60-$70??

OK, so I think I've identified mistake #1. But what now? I have $95 or so behind.

Shove and hope. If a fourth spade falls, you hate your life. If it doesn't, it's tough to get away from anyway.

This is a definite shove. I think a flush draw makes up a low % of his hand range here as one would just call your raise to $10 on the flop after he led weak into you. Once he min-re-raises you back, I think he could have something like 22/33 or AT maybe. JJ+ is also quite possible.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

i'll give the same advice i usually give in these situations:

his betting indicates that he's a moron.

because he's a moron, he can unfortunately have spades here.

BUT....because he's a moron.....you will also see 33, 22, slowplayed AA/KK, and poorly played QQ/JJ and god knows what else.

if you have $95 behind i would bet something like $72.28. or some silly weird # like that. just because there is a chance that he only has 1 pair here. you want to give him a reason to call.

edit: also- do you have the [Ts]? if so, that removes the possbility of him having pair + draw. it decreases the overall # of flushes he can have. and it gives you some outs against [5s][4s], [6s][5s], etc etc.

This is a tough one. I dont like the shove...but checking is a big problem because if the river doesnt fill u, then he might push with practicallu¿y any two and you'd have to fold.

I think pushing there is -EV. You both have about 1.5bu in stacks....let's see. He calls $32 to see the turn. Th pot has $46. That is about 1.4: when he is 4:1 to ccomplete...Based in implied odds,,,if you push after the [s] and happens he had the FD, he'd be slightly +EV, so that is not the best play IMO.

Check behind and call a reasonable river bet and, not matter what, in the long run, you win and he losses. Dont call a push!

I am quasidrunk....I hope this makessense....happy new year, bud ;-)-u
Edit...I orgot to say that his minreraise kinda makes it hard for me t believe he has the FD. Could he have a smaller set...?

I think you have to whack it in here and bite the variance bullet. You still have lots of outs.

I think you played it perfectly up to turn, though you should make your reraise a tad bigger, up to 60-70. Flop push is not good if he can fold his flush draw.

On the turn I prefer a check behind, I doubt that he has JJ+ here with this action, he also unlikely to have TP, so his most likely hand is a flush. So, checking turn is best by far, i.e. his hand range is mainly composed of flushes here.
(If flop were like AT5 with a flush draw I would be in a pushing camp too, as his range would include a lot of TP type of hands.)

All this gay raising on the flop makes me think he has a decent hand, I am thinking a set or [As] [Ts] , now if I had the [Ts] I would be a lot less worried about the turn card....... I would have raised more on the flop because it is obvious he loves his hand so why not get the money in when you have the nuts?
I think I would normally check behind on the turn and I call the river bet he makes unless it is a push, if another [s] comes on the river I would be sick, but at the same time it might stop him value betting a lower flush...

Having said that earlier today I had the exactsame situation with a set of kings against a fish and on the turn flush card I actually bet and he check raised me all in on the turn with his 38s (yes he called 10xbb preflop with 83s) and I rivered my full house.

I should have mentioned that I did not have the [Ts].

I played it more or less like ua suggested: made a weird-looking bet and called his CRAI. He showed [As][5s] and I didn't fill up. Then I felt like a donk for not recognizing the weird-ass betting sequence as a FD. Since he had the gutshot too, he probably would have called a flop shove. I was praying for set over set or 54 or AA-JJ or something. Ah well. Glad to see the FD wasn't obvious to everybody.

I guess zmej wins the hand-reading contest. Nice job.
