Given the hot topic on short stack play at the moment I thought I'd share this hand, nothing special about it, just wanted some comments.
Villain is LAG VP$IP 62 PFR 23 (after the session, I encountered him early on not sure of his stats at that stage).
He had raised a couple of times previous to this without callers and built his stack from $6 to $11 when I encountered him.
I didn't figure him for a big pair as he'd been raising too often so thought a big A was more likely so I called. I had position and even though not the odds to set him I called figuring if the flop was low I'd be ahead

PF call correct?? on reflection i'm thinking tourney yes, cash game, maybe.
Flop play? Lead into him and give him a chance to fold, or, given my read let him hang himself

I really dont like calling raises from short stacks with middle pairs, you are pretty much putting all your money in in what you are hoping it is a coin flip. This opponant isnt folding his overcards no matter what hits. So you are basiscly playing a coin flop all in. Plus there is always a chance that he has a bigger pair. There is some chance that he is playing 7s or lower but I think playing this pot is break even EV. I realyl hate playing agaisnt short stacks.

if you can eliminate his hand down to a big ace, its not so bad because when you get all the money in, you are a significant favorite but you don't know if he's playing AK, AQ, AJ, AT or 99 or TT so you don't really know what is good and what isn't. This is why I hate short stacks and I would just rather wait for a higher pocket pair or a strong ace to just push back at him. Just don't forget about other people still in the hand.

I'm not really sure how you can be 95% sure he had AK. Wouldn't he play a high pocket the same way??

Anyway I think your play is fine..other then a set..can't expect a better flop for 8's. Only suggestion I can make is to fold to a short stacks raise with a pocket pair.
