I am a lucky fish

Postby Kalle » Tue Aug 02, 2005 9:37 am

600PL. 7 or 8-handed

I raise pot ($21) with [Ah][Qh] UTG. Only bad passive UTG+1 ($260) calls. Flop is [6h][3d][2s]. I bet $40, he calls. Turn is [7h]. He has a $200 left, there is $130 in pot. He could have a a set or a straight but I think it is more likely that he has some kind of pair, perhaps toghether with a gutshot draw. I'm not sure if I can convince him to fold it. What do I do now?

if he's passive he might be the type to wait and raise a big hand on the river or he might have anything from 88-jj in which you have more outs (or ak and he might fold). I would bet as much as you would call and hope he doesn't push (if he's passive he probably will just call you down)
I got my hair highlighted, because I felt some strands were more important that others.

From the title of this post, I'm guessing you bet, he raised all-in, you called and hit your flush to beat his baby straight or two pair.

I agree with Bensberg, except that of course he can't "push" since this is pot limit. But he can bet full pot and push you off your draw if you check. But that's what I would do anyway: check and hope to get odds to draw.

I check the turn. You tried to buy the pot and got caught. I'm trying to slow down from here.

If I later hit my miracle flush, then I can go all in and it looks like I'm trying to buy the pot.

Yes I should have checked. I realize that now. He probably makes a small bet and gives me odds to draw. The only bad thing is that I have to improve to win.

In the hand, I decided to bet pot on turn, he raised all in, I called and sucked out. He had 76s, so he was actually weak on flop.

I push all in on the turn.

The pot is already $130 and he has only $200 left. You have 9 outs to the flush and theres a good chance that your ace is good for 3 more out and a maybe even the Q for another 3 outs.

Add to that the folding equity, and I push every time. I would do that same thing with a big overpair.

If he had a bigger stack, its a whole different story.

Hey Ice,

I'm trying to learn how to play these types of hands where you push in b/c of fold equity or whatever.

What is your general though process ? When do you see a push as the play in a situation like this? Only when fold equity is high and only 1 other player?

Especially as it relates to stack sizes.
