Live vs Online

Postby euri10 » Mon May 02, 2005 8:18 am

Hi,
I regulary play NLHE in my local club (2/2 blinds, min buy in 30) and enjoy it, I'm not crushing the table there but I'm doing fine.
I play online mostly on 1/2 shorthanded, ocasionnally on 2/4 full ring.
And 3 weeks ago I experimented Las Vegas.
I stayed at the MGM so I tried their brand new poker room.
I begun at 1/2 NL with a max buy in of 100$ (thats not a lot) and I felt quite confortable.
I tried also the 2/5 NL max buy in 500$ and I did well also on it.
Some things amazed me a lot, mostly because it doesn't exist at online table, and because in my local french clubs it's very different.
a) preflop raises are huge :!: franckly on my regular 1/2 NL online, even it's SH raises of 4/5 BB are respected by most players. In vegas I had sometimes 5/6 callers with a 6BB raise .
In france you are respected most of the time with a 5BB raise preflop. my table was mad or it's usually the case in vegas ?
b) all in are by far more frequent, people don't hesitate to rebuy, in france people usually come to the table with a lot of cash and don't want to rebuy, here people seem to come short-stacked and gamble !

So I wanted your thoughts about the difference between online and vegas !
I cried because I had no draw, until I met a man with no pair>>>MVSPORTS

Can't speak for Vegas games, but my experience with live NL is that it is a wild game at least in Tunica and S. Cali. You can find no max buy in games as well at some places, very deep stacks to the blinds and the raises are even crazier. Forget what you thought was a preflop raise and double it, you will still get called in a couple of spots, heck you can probably move in and still get called.

I just got back from Vegas, and I can wholeheartedly agree... The standard raise at a 1/2 NL game is $12-$17, and would still get at least a couple callers... Also, I'm not saying I'm very good or anything, but they're HORRIBLE there... I would just sit back, wait for my monsters, and kill people playing K-anything or A-anything... Then watch them buy right back in...

Euri, what you are pointing out is the exact reason, that most of the pros live in vegas. There are far more fish than at any other tables I've ever seen. I played the 2/5 at the bellagio when I was there last time and the game is very soft. People are there to drink, gamble and play the game that they see on TV. I cant wait to go back.

Honestly, when I was playing the 2/5 tables in Vegas, a LOT of the players seemed like they came right out of the $25NL games on Party... They just had a slightly larger bankroll...

Awesome 8-) ,

Can't wait to go back to Vegas, Last time I was there I avoided the NL game. I thought that was were all the sharks were. I played 3/6 and 4/8 and did quite well.

Next time I'll dip my foot in the NL pond.
