I like this flop ... or do I? ($50 NL FR)

Postby k3nt » Wed Nov 08, 2006 11:12 am

PokerStars $50 NL FR. Playing the $50s while I get used to the software and also the style of play. It's only my second session at the site.

Get AA otb. Folds around to the CO who raises to $2. I reraise to $5.

A word on the size of that reraise. This CO seems to have a penchant for steal raises to $2. The first time he did it he was OTB and I was in the SB. I reraised to $5 with TT and he instafolded. My thinking at the time was that I didn't want to get in too deep with just TT, and he was probably full of sh*t and would fold to any decent raise. I was right, he did and he was.

Then he did it again from the CO and I reraised to $5 again, this time with 87o. He called this reraise but then check/folded the flop.

Then he did it AGAIN from the CO and I reraised to $5 yet again, this time with ATs. He called again and check/folded the flop again. I'm liking the way this is going.

Anyway, that's why I reraised to just $5 with AA this time. I'm really hoping he picked up a hand this time and is sick of me and will come over the top with as little as TT or AK/AQ.

Question #1: do you hate the reraise to just $5 instead of $6 or $7? If I'm going to be reraising both as a resteal and with big hands, do I need to be bumping it to more than $5? I think that so few people at $50 NL reraise anything other than AA/KK that any reraise gets a lot of respect the first couple of times you do it.

The BB cold calls the reraise. Wasn't expecting that! CO thinks and calls too. I have about $65 and the BB covers.

Pot is $15.50 and the flop is 844 rainbow. I like that flop, I'm really only worried about 88. Check, check, I bet $15. BB calls, other guy folds.

BB hasn't done anything crazy to this point.

Pot $45.50. Turn is a Q and the BB bets $10. I think and decide to flat call.

Pot $65.50 is a 2. No flushes, no straights. BB pushes for my last $35 or so. And I ... do what?

Comments on any and all streets welcome. Thanks.

Insta-call the river.

I like the way you played this, including the pf re-raise to $5 given your history.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
