Learned this one from Mecosking....

Postby MVPSPORTS » Fri Sep 09, 2005 11:37 pm

This guy played his hand like a total monkey...He's sittin on what I assumed was AJ, and kept calling and calling and calling... What do you guys do on the river there...? Push and hope he calls w/ his probable AJ...? Valuebet like I did...?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed)

UTG+1 ($56.45)
MP1 ($37.25)
MP2 ($49.70)
MP3 ($45)
Hero ($84.55)
Button ($42.75)
SB ($19.50)
BB ($50.05)
UTG ($27.95)

Preflop: Hero is CO with [Js], [9s].
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $1, 3 folds, Hero calls $1, 2 folds, BB calls $0.50. Taking my wonderful position and callin w/ my freakin one gapper, after reading Kenny, Kent, and Rdales posts recently about breakin people with the connectors...

Flop: ($3.25) [6s], [3c], [Jd] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 bets $2, Hero raises to $6, BB folds, UTG+1 calls $4. Hit my TPWK... SWEEEET... Raising to see if he's full of crap... He called... CRAP... AJ...

Turn: ($15.25) [9c] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $10, UTG+1 calls $10. As Mecos might say... "NIHAN!!!" I'm not really sure what that means, but it sounds cool when you yell it in your underwear... Maybe he'll raise the turn...? CRAP...

River: ($35.25) [2s] (2 players)
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $15, UTG+1 calls $15. I debated, valuebet or push... Decided for the former, although he probably would've called the latter, if you're interested in what he REALLY had, see below...

Final Pot: $65.25

I guess I could've called this post "ONE OF THE WORST AA HANDS EVER!!! Strong playin it all the way through there, chief... Now I'm kinda pissed cause I think he would've called a push... Oh well, nice to suck out on someone every once in a while... :D

Happens all the time. If he'd played more aggressively (like raised PF more than $0.50 or bet more than 65% of the pot on the flop), you might not have gone past the flop, but it happens. Like the KJo caller to the 4x BB bet who flops AQT against Mr. AA. Once that flop hits, it's over. You (or in this case, him) just have to suck it up and keep playing your game. If he's truly a monkey, you should earn it back, and more, from him over time. Of course ***I*** might be the monkey...

lol..love that passive AA play. The way he played it, he should have let it go on the turn... I would have reraised on the flop and went from there.
