Interesting KK with Scary Flop

Postby APerfect10 » Mon Sep 12, 2005 4:42 pm

I thought this was an interesting hand and was a good quiz/discussion hand.

MP2 is ultra aggressive, 14/7/3 and a good player. I have approximately 1000 hands on him and he has been on a tear of +35 PTBB/100. Thats all the information I have on him.

At this table, I have been playing solid poker, about 15/5/3.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (7 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

SB ($86.60)
BB ($58.75)
UTG ($254.25)
MP1 ($243.85)
MP2 ($200.75)
APerfect10 ($251.45)
Button ($311)

Preflop: APerfect10 is CO with [Ks], [Kc]. SB posts a blind of $1.
UTG calls $2, 1 fold, MP2 calls $2, APerfect10 raises to $9, Button calls $9, 2 folds, UTG calls $7, MP2 calls $7.

Flop: ($39) [Jh], [9h], [8d] (4 players)
UTG checks, MP2 checks, APerfect10 bets $35, Button folds, UTG folds, MP2 raises to $85, APerfect10 ?

Whats your move and what do you expect Villian to be holding?

Well I guess nobody found this hand as interesting as I did due to the lack of response and answers....

I am going to disagree with both of you and here is why:

1. He is 2 off the button.
2. He is raising 7% of his hands
- I would include JJ, 99, 88 as definate raises from his position
- I would also include 109s, 98s and possibly J10s as a good possibility that he raises with
- AKs, AQs are both out of the picture as I think these are definate raises from this position.
3. Since his VP$IP is only 14%, I do not see him calling a raise with Q10o/s or 107.

That leaves me with [Ah] x possibly [Ah] Jx? [Ah] [10h]?

So my guess is that I'm slightly/moderately ahead. You also have to remember that he's ultra aggressive so he will make a move and doesnt necessarily have to be ahead here. He should also know that I can laydown an overpair if I have it.

I doubt he'll call a reraise all-in unless if I am behind or exactly 50/50. I decided a call was in order and unless if a heart or 10 turns, I plan on reraise pushing and hopefully I have him pot committed and am way ahead.

But what do I know...I dont have time to make thoughtful decisions like this playing 8 tables :P ;)

Thoughts?

I would like to know how often he has check raised before. If this is the first time that I have seen him check raise I fold without a second thought. If he check raises a lot I would have to think a bit more. What has he check raised with? Has he check raised where you have seen his cards and he showed a bluff?
If he has shown a bluff after a check raise before, I'm all in on the turn if no heart appears.
I hate putting down pocket KK's but if he hasn't shown a bluff after a checkraise before I think folding is the only +ev play.
Now you will tell us that you called and that he had pocket QQ's (oh well. I've been wrong before...lol)
It's unlucky to be superstitious

Well, with QT staring you in the face, once you get that checkraise, I agree that you have to fold.

What do you think of checking the flop and playing the hand defensively? If it's this guy, you're likely to have to lay down on the turn anyway, as he'll make a very big bet, I'm assuming. The thing about this flop is that, as serious raiser, you definitely don't have QT (unless you make these loose LP raises I've been messing around with... )
