How much to bet with my set?

Postby Kowskie » Sat Sep 10, 2005 8:17 am

My PT wasn't working so I don't have the hand history. NL 100 and I hit a set of 4's in an unraised pot. There is a bet, a raise to $7 and a cold call of the $7 raise before me. I raise to $22 and the cold caller only calls. There is now about $50 dollars in the pot. The turn is a blank, but there was a flush draw on the flop.
My question is how much to bet on the turn. We both have about $70 left and I put him all-in and he folded. Should I have bet 3/4 to full pot in this situation?
thanks,
Kowskie

Uhm...I dont know there at $100Nl but below that, most players wont call all in with a flush draw. I say you need to bet close to full pot, maybe 3/4, and most of them will call you. Just remember not to pay them when they hit :) .

My normal rule is to give them between 3 and 3.5:1 on flush draws. So, if the pot's 50, then you're betting around $20-25.

I fire 3/4 to a full pot bet. Better to win a small pot than lose a big one being too greedy.

Agree with Stoneburg.

Put it this way: you're unhappy that he folded, but you would be (& SHOULD be) way unhappier if you bet too little and he called and hit and took your pot.

In this case, betting LESS is the HIGHER variance play because it induces more calls.

Take your pot and be happy.
