Guess the hand.

Postby Ricardooon » Tue Sep 20, 2005 1:09 pm

KK again. I have $100, fish in this hand has $140

I get [Kc] [Kd] MP

UTG+1 raises $4. I decide against any form of slow playing so raise $12. Once cold caller behind me, a fish. Slightly gulp. UTG+1 folds.

Flop: [4s] [5d] [8h]

I lead with $18. He calls, crap.

Turn: [5c]

I chk worried about AA. So does he.

River [4c]

I chk again figuring I might show down cheap. He bets $60 putting me all-in. I think and think about this. He is a fish and might well have JJ or QQ or even AK. I decide on balance to call in the end.

Thoughts on this and guess his hand.

Rich

(psst, it is not AA)

He's a fish, he has 66 or 77 for a pair and gutshot that missed.

I'll guess an overpair between 99 and QQ. But because he is a fish, it is difficult to put him on a hand. So his hand range could be anywhere from a bluff or TPTK to a slow played full house.

Another clue: Not a pocket pair, not suited and not connected.

Fish Thoughts:

Let's assume the opponent here was not a fish. Then, his turn check is the classic pot control move. His all in on the river is perhaps a bluff and seems too strong. Shouldn't he value bet a full house there? So its probably a call.

Okay, reality... he's a fish. So with fishies, I think that turn checks are really their way of slowplaying what they perceive is big. When fishies come alive and push all in, they generally have TPTK beat. They can't really pull off that type of bluff and don't really even think on that level.

Hence the reason reads are so important to me.
