getting my feet wet #3

Postby tommyhawk » Thu Sep 08, 2005 2:47 pm

Ok I think this hand is very obvious. But again in a short while I lost a good stack I just obtained on a hand where I may not should have been in.

I really like to know from the regular NL players if they would have folded this hand anywhere or played it different from any position.
I may be to hung up in my STNG strategy.
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

MP3 ($27.45)
CO ($8.69)
Button ($13.80)
SB ($24.35)
BB ($23.40)
Hero ($51.55)
UTG+1 ($27.05)
MP1 ($22.43)
MP2 ($25)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Qs], [Ks]. SB posts a blind of $0.10. MP2 posts a blind of $0.25.
Hero calls $0.25, UTG+1 calls $0.25, 1 fold, MP2 (poster) raises to $1.25, 5 folds, Hero calls $1.25, UTG+1 calls $1.25.

Flop: ($4.85) [Kd], [Kh], [Jd] (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets $1, MP2 calls $1, Hero raises to $4, UTG+1 folds, MP2 raises to $8, Hero raises to $45, MP2 calls $15.50 (All-In).

Turn: ($74.35) [8h] (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: ($74.35) [4c] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $74.35

Results in white below:
Hero has Qs Ks (three of a kind, kings).
MP2 has Ad Kc (three of a kind, kings).
Outcome: MP2 wins $52.85. Hero wins $21.50.

QK suited may look real nice...but it actually is garbage. You're dominated by AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ etc etc. I play it from middle to late position... I fold it UTG without hesitation. Hell i fold AQ UTG.

You just cannot call this hand and feel comfortable with it, espeiclaly with a raise out.

Cloutier talks about QK being no better then 23o... I tend to agree with him.

I would have folded preflop. Limping in is ok in late position with KQ not UTG. I definately don't call the raise with this. You have to hit a miracle flop to not be afraid of your opponents hand.

On a side note...I don't like the way MP2 played it at all.

1) Fold KQs UTG, then fold it again to a 5x raise.

2) When MP2 raises to $8, I'm thinking AK or JJ, especially given his healthy raise pre-flop. Fold right there.

Then again, this is Party. He could just as easily have had 35 offsuit...

What I have learned from your ( and others ) replies is that I should fold these hands immedialtly preflop.

I don't mind going all in with these hands in a stng because of the +ev of finishing in the money and with blinds moving up.
I tend to forget that everybody has all the time to wait on a big hand.

I thank you very much for taking your time as a pro player to give me advice.

Cheers,

Tommyhawk.
