Full Ring or Shorthanded?

Postby SpiderRico » Mon Sep 12, 2005 10:21 pm

My voluntarily put money in the pot is about 18%. Preflop raise is about 7.5%.
Anyway, my question is this:
I play on a 6-handed table, and do well with these stats. But is my game, as it is, better-suited for a full-ring table? Should I move, or just stay put because I'm consistently winning on a short-handed table?

If you are a winner I see no point at changing. Your stats seems solid.

If you are winning that is great, but you might be missing out on some of the joys of six max.

I think optimally starting at the $50 stakes sometimes and the $100 games and up frequently, you should be adopting unwanted pots from the button and cutoff or when only one or two people are left to act playing six max. You can't win these small pots on the flop if you fold preflop. It is the reason I like suited one gappers and unsuited connectors in fairly tight passive game, you might actually pick up a hand or draw to bet. You are in position a bunch playing six max utilize it because you will be in the blinds more. I still frequently fold the real trash in the last three seats, but ideally I want to be in a seat that unless some one has something I can win with money instead of cards as much as possible.

Granted if it is a table of calling stations or if someone is going to decide to start keeping you honest this strategy goes right out the window and your tighter method is best. Sometimes an overly aggressive player to your left will kill your ability to play like this and tighter is fine. I think there is a lot of room for playing loose passive preflop and loose aggressive post flop in unraised pots in six max at least up to $400NL.

I think an 18% VPIP at 6-max is extrememly tight. I'm at about 30% and the avg for my database is near 40%.

I think the opposite happens full ring. I think people are less likley to love there A6o full ring but more likly to like it 6-max if say the flop has an A.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I guess for now I'll stay where I'm at, see how it goes. Thanks.
