2 from hell; I mean heaven

Postby shamdonk » Fri Aug 05, 2005 8:16 am

I bet the flop to find out where I am in the hand; it also can somewhat serve as a bluff at the A. Hopefully a weak lead there looks like an A that wants a raise; if in fact an A is out there I see a raise coming, then I'm out. 1 call and then an overcall, I'm already ready to fold this one on the turn.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (9 handed)

Hero ($25.65)
UTG+1 ($24.95)
MP1 ($39.45)
MP2 ($100.71)
MP3 ($44.45)
CO ($35.32)
Button ($27.35)
SB ($24.75)
BB ($26.80)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Qd], [Qs]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
Hero raises to $1, 1 fold, MP1 calls $1, MP2 calls $1, 4 folds, BB calls $0.75.

Flop: ($4.10) [2h], [Ah], [As] (4 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $2, MP1 folds, MP2 calls $2, BB calls $2.

Turn: ($10.10) [Qh] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $5, MP2 calls $5, BB calls $5.

River: ($25.10) [2d] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero checks, MP2 bets $5, BB calls $5, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $35.10

Results in white below:
BB has 6h 7h (flush, ace high).
MP2 has Qc Ac (full house, aces full of queens).
Outcome: MP2 wins $35.10.

Wow good thing that 2 fell on the River. You would have lost a lot more money on that hand than you did.

I think I would have bet more on the turn. It would not have done you much good in this instance, but just as an overall strategic move.

I think I bet 1/2 the pot on the turn cause I really wanted to get raised. With 2 calls on that flop I was sure a min raise was due from one of them. Maybe a full pot bet would have put them on their heels more; which makes them lean more to keep the lead with what i thought to be just trips. I really don't mind 2 callers there though, I thought they were sharing the trips, obviously not a boat, so is a 1/2 pot bet there that bad?

i would bet like full pot on the turn. i figure i am way ahead and up against an A and/or a flush draw, and there's no way they're laying down. i want to win a huge pot. i don't think it's unrealistic to expect your 1/2 pot bet to get raised there, but out of position, sometimes you have to just bet for everybody and maybe they'll raise anyway.

call me crazy, but i call the river. BB doesn't have an A, so you've only got to beat MP 1 in 8 times, and his play doesn't scream A that much.
