First Prima AA

Postby T-Rod » Sat Oct 01, 2005 5:18 pm

So playing at Prima 6-max 100NL for the first time (seems like lots of very dumb calls by players).

Unlike others, Villain is very, very solid LAG and has $99. I have him covered.

Get A[c] A[s] in the BB. Villain in CO raises 5

I raise to 17.50 and only Villain calls

Flop--J[c] 4[h] 4[c] (pot $37) I check. Villain bets $4. I push all-in ($80 to him).

Thoughts? Do you like this AA power play or should I wait?

I think you are ahead and because of that, you did it fine IMHO.

What does he have to beat you and called 17 preflop? JJ only. Would he have called 17 with JJ? If he does I tink you pay him because he most likely have KK-QQ.

Only problem anyone could see I think it s that you probably wont be called really often, but the pot is big enough for unimproved AA, so I like it. Besides, it´s saturday and there are a zillion bozos doing crazy stuff all over.

TRodge - not sure I see the benefit of checkraising him all in for that 4 bucks?

Would you explain your thought process there? Why not just bet that flop?

I'd pop it to 12 and lead out for 12 again on the turn. I think he's in a spot of making a crying call down to the river if you don't bet him out.

My thought process is anyone who's calling a raise to 17 preflop probably has a big pocket pair.

I'm thinking he has QQ/KK and can't get away from his hand. If he has JJ I'm screwed. I think the 4s don't matter.

But he may get away from TT and QQ...maybe not KK. I'd rather make sure I got some of his money, than risking the push and scaring him off.

i think you do better by leading the flop. if he pushes....you can call. because like you said...KK and QQ are possibilities. if you check-raise all-in....i think he folds KK/QQ and you get screwed by JJ. i also tend to think he has JJ because of his silly little $4 flop bet.

if he's smart...he knows you're not re-raising preflop and checking the flop with anything but AA or JJ in this case.

There's not too much upside to the play, I think. You get called by JJ, and maybe KK but I would doubt it. I prefer betting out at least half pot, and go from there.

Good points fellas.

I'm not used to the Prima guys calling huge reraises preflop with inferior hands. It made me wonder if they'll fold a KK on the flop either.

I pushed, he called and flipped over JJ. I'll play it different next time.
