Finally! A winning session!

Postby BigPhish » Sat Sep 10, 2005 8:45 pm

It's been about a week since I posted a win. Up 3 buy-ins in 2 hours feels nice.

Anyway, some help with hands, please...

1) Extracting Value

Phish has $42
Villain has $18, only 11 hands so no rating yet

Phish UTG w/ [Ad][9d] calls 0.25, UTG+1 folds, Villain calls, Folds to SB who completes, BB checks

Flop (1.00) [3s][9s][Kd] Check, Check, Phish bets 1.00, Villain calls (I put him on King or flush draw), SB & BB fold and we're heads up to the turn

Turn (3.00) [Tc] Phish bets 2.00, Villain calls

River (7.00) [Ah] Phish bets...?

How much do I bet here to get called?

2) I think I've sprung a leak!

Phish has $29
Villain has $60, rated LAA

Phish in BB with [Ks][6s], Folds to CO who calls, Button folds, Villain (SB) completes, Phish checks

Flop (0.75) [Kh][4s][7h], Villain checks, Phish bets 1.00, CO folds, Villain calls

Turn (2.75) [7d] Villain checks, Phish bets 3.00, Villain raises to 6.00, Phish calls

River (14.75) [8d] Villain bets 3.00, Phish calls

What'd he have? Where do bet differently?

3) It's just an overpair...

This one posted for ridicule, mostly...

Phish has $26
Villain has $13, rated LAA

Phish on Button with [Qh][Qc], 3 folds, MP1 raises to 0.75, 1 fold, MP3 calls, Button folds, Phish raises to 2.00, SB Villain calls, BB folds, MP1 calls, MP3 calls

Flop (8.25) [9h][3s][7h] SB checks, MP1 bets 2.00, MP3 folds, Phish raises to 4.00, Villain raises to 6.00, MP1 folds, Phish raises to 8.00, Villain pushes, Phish calls

Turn, River (33.35) [7d][5d]

What did he have? Where do you bet differently?

4) You can't always fold overpairs

Phish has $24
Villain has $19, he's new to the table, but his play screams, "muppet!"

This hand occurs shortly after Hand #3, which Villain was at the table for.

Phish in UTG with [Qs][Qd] raises to 1.00, 2 folds, Villain calls, folds around and we're heads-up.

Flop (2.35) [4c][6h][3s] Phish bets 1.00, Villain calls

Turn (4.35) [5d] Phish bets 4.00, Villain pushes 17.44, Phish hits the tank... (Am I on tilt from that last beat? No, I don't tilt. But I don't see him doing this with a set or a straight. The 5 would make the straight a gut-shot. Can he have a set? He'd play this slower with a set or a straight. No way he has it, right?) Phish calls.

River (39.23) [As]

What did he have? How do you play this differently?

5) Last one, any way to extract more value here?

Phish has $31
Villain has $19, rated LAA

Phish in SB with [Ad][Kc], Villain UTG calls, 3 folds, MP1 (posted bring-in) checks, CO and Button fold, Phish completes (only AK I didn't raise all night), BB checks

Flop (1.00) [9h][Kd][Td] Phish bets 1.00, BB folds, Villain calls, MP1 folds

Turn (3.00) [Kh] Phish bets 3.00, Villain calls

River (9.00) [4s] Phish bets 5.00, Villain calls

That last bet was 1/3 of his remaining stack and a bit over 1/2 the pot. He called with [Th][5h]. Any way to extract more cash? I think I was lucky his LAGgy ass even called $5.

1. phish folds preflop :) but since he played hand, phish bets $4 on river.

2. phish folds to turn raise as opponent has him beat with trips or king, better kicker.

3. phish pushes in on the flop

4. phish bets closer to the pot for around $2. Turn is pretty marginal. Hope Phish won.

5. perfect

Hand 1... bet $5...
Hand 2... I fold to the minraise... I'm trying my best to ALWAYS fold to a minraise unless I have a good reason not to...
Hand 3... I HATE your minraise... But, when he minraises you back...   RUN SCREAMING FOR THE HILLS!!!!
Hand 4... You gotta bet the flop harder... Cmon man... we're on a freakin site named "Bet The Pot" and you bet less than 1/2 the pot??? Not sure if I'd call that or not, especially from someone new to the table... Maybe if I knew how they played a little...
Hand 5... You played it fine... I think you got as much as you were gonna get there..

Push with queens preflop? Huh? Really? Edit: Er, I mean on the flop. I suppose I could have, but a set still stacks me...

I'll limp with Ax suited from just about any position a lot of times. It's easy to fold if I don't get anywhere near a flush. I suppose I should go have a look at my PT stats on Ax suited and see if they're winning after like 13k hands...

1) I think u have to fold this on preflop.

2) You deffinatley have to fold on the turn here. A c/r on the turn would send me away

3) I like the raise on the flop (not big enough). BUT when he comes back over the top of you have to let go here. He is not folding and he will play for his stack. I think he may have 77 ot 99 here.
I have to go now or i would finish my analisis (for whatever its worth)

Suppose I should throw the results out there...

Hand 1: I bet $6, he folded. BTW, Ax sooted accounts for nearly 1/2 my winnings over 13 or 14k hands at NL$25. But still, mebbe I take your advice and stick to later positions with 'em...

Hand 2: He had a 7. Sooooo tough to fold against a LAG though... at least I got the $ back with interest a couple cycles later. He's LAG enough to call an all-in bet on the turn chasing a flush draw.

Hand 3: He had pocket 9's

Hand 4: Ready for this? This is freaking insane. He had [Jd][6d] for TPGK. Go back and read the HH again knowing that. WTF is he thinking?!?! He left the table immediately after I took his stack. I think sometimes you just have to make the crying call if you don't want to be bluffed out of every single pot you bet at. Fortunately enough for me, this one worked out.

Hand 5: Yeah, I gotta do the math on the end... 1/3-1/2 their stack, 1/2 the pot or so, whichever is lower, unless I think they have a good 2nd best hand, then it's push.

It hurts to see how smart I am sometimes, except of course for that abomination of a 4th hand by villian... :D

BTW... I didn't believe it the first 1000 times I heard Ice say it... But keep the mantra in your mind "minraise=monster... minraise=monster"... Unless I have a VERY good reason to think otherwise (and I seldom do), I'm folding to probably 80%+ minraises... And, I'm sure occasionally I fold the best hand... But, I'll take folding the best hand 10% of the time to not have the 2nd best hand 90%...
