Donkified Calls

Postby BigPhish » Mon Sep 05, 2005 8:02 am

I post these not necessarily for review, but for ridicule. If it wasn't for these idiotic calls, I'd have another 47.73 in my BR. Two damn buy-ins. I gotta stop calling with weak hands.

1) OESD + Flush Draw? Push! Played the hand well to the point where I'm holding A7 spades on a 8s9sTc board. I bet 2/3 pot and push against a flopped straight. My flush doesn't get there. Net: -23.50

2) Can't Release Two Pair. Went hunting a flush draw preflop, wound up with a low top pair (8's). Played the flop OK, turn came and only other foe bets 2/3 pot on a board of 2d3c4h8s. I call. River brings the A, there's a straight on board. Opponent bets 1/2 pot. I called. I should have raised or folded my two pair. Net: -3.00

3) This one hurt bad. I'm BB with a craptastic hand, but I get to see the flop for free, so what the heck? Flop brings me bottom 2 pair. I overbet pot slightly. Opponent is kind enough to triple my bet. There are better hands to play for a stack with than bottom 2, but I did anyway. He had top 2 and I don't improve. Fortunately he's short-ish stacked. Net: -14.38

4) Listen to that little voice! I'm in BB with 77. I've been following and taking money from my foe very regularly all night. He's too aggressive. Thing is, he's tightened up considerably against me and I knew that. Anyway, the flop brings 569 rainbow. I bet 1/3 pot at it, he raises me 6x what I bet. That little voice starts going off that he's got me beat. So I raise him back. He pushes (he's short stacked). I call. He has TT. Net: -6.85

I will give you opinions, if ya don;t mind!!hehe

1) Good play, it was nice and agressive but there is nothing really you can do about it. Nice agressive poker Doyle!!!

2) At $25NL (what ur playing?) I don't think i would have made that call with 2 pair. There is 4 to a straight on the board and at this level (which i play 2) someone has usually got the straight.

3) I think you would have to lay down bottome 2 here. You made a big bet here and were raised considerlby. What can he have?? Top 2, Set. the onkly real things you are beating here is an overpair. And I don't know (maybe im wrong) if an overpair would come over the top of you for that much.

4) That riase screamed overpair or at least top pair. Neither of which you can beat. I like the raise, but i do not thik that can be effective at $25Nl. Its too hard to bluff. If they have any top pair or overpair they WILL call. Just a lil too fancy. IMO.

There you have it, There are my opinion. What do ya think??

I think you're right except for the first hand. I need to stop playing for a stack on a coinflip. Given the calibre of play at the stakes I'm at, these guys will call off their stacks when they have TPTK and I have a full house.
