Did I raise it right?

Postby AlamedaMike » Sun Sep 04, 2005 11:14 am

HI guys -

On this hand I would like comments on my flop raise size. Thanks

same live game NL$200 3,2,2. I was on the BTN with [Qd] [Jd] and 7 players limped in - 8 to see the flop the pot was $20.

Flop [Qs] [Jh] [4s]

I flopped top two. :D

Everyone checked to the CO seat who bet $15. Making the pot $35. I raised $30 more making the pot $75. I think this was enough but I should have raised a little more like $45.

Anyway all folded and the CO called my $30 giving him 30:75 or 2.5 to 1 pot odds.

Turn Small [s].

He checked and I checked.

River [s]

He bet and I flashed my cards and said nice catch I flopped 2 pair. He showed [Ks] [8s] and said I did not bet enough that he had good odds for his flush draw and one over card.

I said you are wrong and he pulled a little chart out of his wallet and showed me that 9 outs has 34% by the river. I smiled pointed to the turn odds and said but to the turn it is 19%. He still did not get it so I dropped it. I gave him too much information as it was. My daddy, may God rest his soul, whould be mad at me - he said never give anyone any information.

You and I know that if no [s] hit the Turn I was going to bet so much that calling would be wrong. Most likely $80-100. If he bet the Turn more than $10 I was folding.

I have played with him a few times and now I know if I want him to fold overbet the pot some and if I want a call just bet the pot or close to it.

Thanks guys - he was not there today - I have become familiar with a lot of the regular players - I have played against about 20 or so of them at least once.

I liked the raise size and you all confirmed that I had it right.

Thanks again.
