Did I miss some value?

Postby shobute » Sat Aug 27, 2005 1:12 pm

Sat down this morning at NL100 on Prima.
In the BB with a full stack and 95o.

A few limpers to the flop of 954r with $5 pot.
SB checks and I lead for $4, a limper calls and we're HU.

Turn is a 9 completing the rainbow and I'm sailing.
I check, he bets $10 into the $13 pot.
I scratch my head and make it $30, he calls.

River is an A with a $73 pot.
I've got $65 left and he has me covered.
What do I do?

Could he have limped AA? Doubtful...
How about A9? Quite possible.
My range of hands for him: a 9x, pocket 5's or 4's, or AA-TT.

So in a moment of weakness I make a blocking bet of $15.
He calls and I take the pot, without seeing what he had.

Critique please!

Thanks.

In that kind of hands i am paying A9 or AA!! I am betting big on the river, he called a huge bet on the turn, so he likes his hand. He could also had 55, in which case he was beat. It s odd that he didnt push if he had it though. The only possibility i am seeing ther is A9, in which case I am paying him.

I think you cant be that scared with your full house. Maybe that is a leak in my game but I am willing to lose my stack with a full house, regardless if it is a small one and the villain has shown strenght or that he likes his hand.

Let s see what others say but I think that river bet was very weak. I would have bet BIG.

Looking back now it's incredibly silly.

After my $15 bet if he pushes, I'm calling.
I'd be risking my remaining $50 for a $150+ pot.

So the question is only how to get his chips in.

Maybe half-pot?

its hard to put him on a full house or trips because all his money would be in the middle by the river

I think you could have got away with 40 or 50 and he might have put you in instead of call. 30 would have been a very reasonable value bet as well, 15 after check raise to 30 is just silly.

I had a similiar hand this week with A7 in the BB filling up to a second best boat against AJ. I was more than willing to bet my stack that he didn't have AJ the only hand that could beat me. I didn't lose a bit of sleep over that massive pot that slid the other way. I think this is a very similiar case that you have to assume that if he doesn't have the set to make a smaller pocket pair that he missed his three outer to beat you.

Maybe if it was an unlimited buy in game with super deep stacks you can avoid getting crazy deep with out the real nuts, but you still play for at least the amount of the fixed buy in game :)

Bet big win big!
