Did i get a lil too gun ho here??

Postby Zuccala » Sun Sep 04, 2005 10:17 pm

Im in LP with [Ad] [kd] it is raised EP (5BB), and a MP calls as well. The flop comes down [kc][4d][5d]. The EP bets the pot, then MP raises and is all-in, the i push. It caused the EP to fold and i won the hand with a flush. Now should I have just called the raise from MP and waited for the EP to fire another stab on the turn. I found out after the hand EP had [as][qs] so he may not have fired again. What do yall think??

I dont like slowplaying ANYTHING but a big full house. Call me paranoid, but I dont like to give undefined odds to anyone. What if the guy had a set and the board paired? That kind of thing makes me tilt because it would have been a bad play. You did it OK. Dont let your eyes get bigger than your stomach, you already have this guy in with the nuts. you did it perfectly IMHO. Besides, how much more you had?

it's hard to say exactly w/out knowing the stack sizes, but in general, yeah, just call MP in a cash game. the main thing is you may be behind to MP, so you want to build a side pot w/ EP since you likely have the better hand and certainly better draw. of course, he's unlikely to call w something you can beat, but you want to give him a chance anyway.

if EP is the preflop raiser....then i would lean toward just calling. his most likely hands are AK, QQ, JJ, or maybe some kind of [9d][8d] type hand. or maybe AQ if he's a looser raiser. you're freerolling against AK and the diamonds, and you have his underpairs drawing to two outs, and AQ drawing almost dead. why drive him out?

additionally...if he's got AA or KK...it is also to your benefit to see a card and hopefully hit a diamond.
