Crying game

Postby Cactus Jack » Sun Aug 07, 2005 4:39 am

Sorry to do this, but I gotta moan a little.

Played for hours yesterday on Empire, with the lousiest of results. Very early in the session, I get KK UTG. I limp reraise the BB, a fish. I get reraised. We go all in, and I find I've run into AA.

Table two, a few hands later, I flop a set of 2s from the BB. I check and it gets checked around. I bet the turn a little, get called. I bet big on the river and get reraised all in. Villain is THE WORST POKER PLAYER IN THE WORLD. Sees 78% of every hand. Makes ridiculous calls. The ONLY hand that can beat me is...68. You know what he has.

Hours and hours later, I'm still waiting to get this guy. I literally cannot get a decent hand. When I do get something, I win $3. I play three tables and hit absolutely nothing all day. I play the very best poker I know how, and simply cannot get any traction whatsoever. Eventually, the fish gave all my money back to other players. One guy, an a-hole who keeps typing "Punx" and is a rock, takes most of it. It got to the point where I just wanted to throw up.

For the first time since I've been playing NL$25 on PP, I'm below my initial deposit. Stacked twice hurts. I'm improving, but it seems that my luck just plain sucks.

I wanna keep playing, because I enjoy it so much, even when I just break even. Hell, I don't mind so much losing a few bucks in a session. But to get wiped out twice and never even get a chance to get some back is frustrating beyond my ability to bear it. (And, to top it off, a sea star we added to the tank ate 3! fish, including my wife's favorites.)

Again, sorry to be such a whiner, but it was simply a very, very bad day. I should go back to fixed limit and end the misery. Mine and now yours.

Thanks for providing a crying towel.

I thought you were going to flip up the skirt of your ladies to find Jacks instead.

Low stakes NL is tough, but atleast there are a ton of bad opponents making big errors. Never slow play just bet your hand. BET BIG WIN BIG! Slam it in when you have the best of it or reasonably think you might and you will eventually come out ahead. Take the ground and pound approach, get on top and beat them senseless at every opportunity. Tonight I had a negative two buy-ins before finishig up 3, last night I lost one, I'm $65 and change where I want to be for the week. I'm not a crazy variance lusting player like Palman, two or four buy ins down isn't a good start for me, but unless I just can't take it anymore I grind it out. Those guys are eventually going to make a huge error against me, more likely so because I play 6-max and with fewer other players I have more opportunity to get it right back from them.

Keep fighting the good fight, and never forget even that at the low stakes this is a card game more than anything else.

Well if it's meant to be a topic about losing streaks..
I lost 5 stacks today. 2 were sets vs oversets ( the one he slowplayed aces, I just couldn't believe when he showed the only hand that could beat my eights..), one was set vs fish's gutshot straith, and one was AAA+K vs a guy that raised preflop his 8's, then lead out with his set, and I just couldn't place him on 8s.. :(

My worst day ever... ;(
There is no knowledge that is not power.

I have no problem with this thread turning into a pity party. Some days are simply so bad you gotta find some love somewhere.

I don't mind the suckouts. That's poker. They deal seven, not six. I'm not happy when I play badly, but I can live with it. For me, it's a killer when I play it right and some friggin' idiot who's playing with his allowance plays every hand and he finds one against ME. No, it couldn't be against someone else. Fate treats them right. He gets what he should get, beat about the head. He fills that 95o he played from UTG against me.

Why me???

Ok, so who can really whine the best? Surely we got some real champion crybabies around here. Give us your best!

RD, thanks for the advice. I'll not be so cute from now on. I'm gonna play tight, then pound them into the felt! ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

I have felt the pain...On Friday, I called myself a 'set magnet' as I was shown 4 sets 4 hands in a row (my hands ranged from high pairs to 2 pairs...)

I cant complaint. I AM A SATURDAY FISH!!!!

I lost a 50+ stack when I cold Called with 22 and hit my set. There was a genius playing 5-3off and hit flopped a str8 and stacked, of couse. A few hands later. I got KK, raised, got reraised by a maniac friend of mine and I pushed. he showed AA and busted me.

8-)

I dont even care anymore. Hang in there Cactus. If you go back to limit you wont be making any money with out hands. These days keep coming, often that we would like, but there is nothing we can do. Just hang in there and be happy everytime you can get all in with your sets and get called, that is surely and EV+ move!

Cardman, if you are getting busted with sets, try to remember the hands, or if you have PT, replay them. You might be able to notice a very similar betting pattern on them, specially if you play low stakes. Let go TPTK and 2pair to that kind of betting.

Okelidokely, Flanders, here's my bad beat hand. I was playing two SH $25 tables because I needed to work on my aggression. Button was a super-mega-ultra-fish. He would play any two cards from any position and call down to the river with bottom pair.

---------

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $25 (6 max)

UTG ($50.20)
Hero ($18.25)
Button ($53.70)
SB ($24)
BB ($17.15)

Preflop: Hero is MP with [Kc], [Ks]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.
1 fold, Hero raises to $1, Button calls $1, 2 folds.

Flop: ($2.35) [Jh], [2s], [Qc] (2 players)
Hero bets $2, Button calls $2.

Turn: ($6.35) [4s] (2 players)
Hero bets $6, Button calls $6.

River: ($18.35) [As] (2 players)
Hero pushes, Button calls $9.25.

Final Pot: $27.60

Results in white below:
Hero has Kc Ks (one pair, kings).
Button has 5c Ah (one pair, aces).
Outcome: Button wins $27.60.

Playing early this morning, I found my ATM. Guy was playing +80% VP$IP, and being a maniac, with a $100 stack. I doubled with AA in the SB. Then...he went to bed with $60 left.

My life sucks.
