I can't win with Suited Connectors!

Postby mecha » Fri Sep 09, 2005 12:04 am

I have read a lot of posts regarding them but I can't seem to show a decent profit over a large sample.

1. Raising with them rarely works, maybe only agaist a tight table who will fold on continuation bets.

2. Calling with them in position has been a disaster for me. No profits here.

3. Calling raises? I don't try this too frequently but from my calculations it will only work if the raiser can laydown big hands to semibluffs.

How do you guys make money off these hands? What type of player should I be playing them against?

Below is a sample of my frustration.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (10 handed)

UTG+2 ($453.60)
Hero ($200.25)
MP2 ($235.05)
MP3 ($183.10)
CO ($260)
Button ($231.30)
SB ($179.15)
BB ($28.50)
UTG ($202.85)
UTG+1 ($136.35)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with [8s], [7s].
1 fold, UTG+2 raises to $4, Hero calls $4, 5 folds, BB calls $2.

Flop: ($13) [5s], [Jd], [6d] (4 players)
BB checks, UTG+2 bets $13, Hero calls $13, BB folds.

Turn: ($39) [7c] (3 players)
UTG+2 bets $39, Hero calls $39.

River: ($117) [Kd] (3 players)
UTG+2 bets $117, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $234

im a bit lost and confused

if fold equity is what makes SC's profitable what is the point of playing them? if the flushes especially are break even considering your likely to get out flushed.. i dont get it..

i struggle to make SC's profitable... i get over flushed way too much..

i dont limp Kx suited... so what changes with a SC? its almost like if i limp with a SC and theres 2 to my suit.. i dont want the flush to hit coz if it does and i get any action im probably losing a few chips

im pretty sure i am making money with SC's with straights... but im not about to start playing unsiuted connecters am i..

Ok, please forgive the newbie POV here - but isn't the point of suited connectors that you are playing them because of the fact that they have the possibility to flop into EITHER a straight or a flush. The fact that they can make two different "monster" hands (as well as the possibility of hitting two pair or something) means that they can be profitable in the right situation.

I don't have poker tracker available atm (I'm at work) but I only ever play SC's in LP in an unraised pot, and I only ever limp with them. I then proceed to fold if I don't flop a draw (unless it's checked around to me of course - then I bet the pot as a matter of course)

If I had to guess, I'd say that suited connectors are big profit makers for me - despite the fact that I only have a VPIP of like 5% or something...

The only time I find SC +EV in a NL game is when you flop a monster and get paid off.

Example.

I had [7d] [8d] in the BB in a live $200 game. I called a $20 raise from MP player with a few callers.

The flop was [5d] [6d] [Ah].

I checked and the MP went all in all folded to me.

The pot had about $250 and I needed to put in about $120. I called and got my flush and won.

He had [Ac] [As] - ouch.

I actually HATE draws in NL for lots of money but I do play them from time to time and I make sure that I am getting at least 3 to 1 on my money on the flop.

I flopped 2 pair with 76s in the BB in a live game and the player laid down his AA in a hearbeat when I called his flop bet and bet the Turn.

He said that when I called he was done if no Ace hit the Turn.

In live games I make more money with SC than with AA, KK or QQ. I get more SC than those hands and they are sneaky hands. The big three do not set that often and are hard to play. SC if you miss the flop you are done with the hand.

It is hard to fold AA and KK.
