Calling an allin from a Semi-tilter w/ AKo

Postby MVPSPORTS » Sat Oct 22, 2005 5:07 pm

BOY did I get a lot of crap for folding this... Prolly even more if they actually knew what I had... The opponent was a semi-decent player... He played a little too loose and raised a little too much... And, he had just been SEVERELY assraped by some other dude at the table just a couple hands before... Do you guys call this allin?

Your play is fine MVP. I usually dont like to be all in with AK but this guy is short and is likely on tilt. He could be making the same play with AQ, AJ, A10, KQ. I used to say that anytime you are all in with AK you are playing bad, then I started playing with some horrible players in a new casino and I have been all in with AK and had a the other player dominated the last couple of times.

Oops Sorry I missread it the first time, I would have called. I am not afraid of variance, this is probably a slighty +ev play but a high variance play. I heard an interesting theoy about these type of situations. When ev is almost neutral, and you are dealing with a short stack, make the call anyways. If nothing else it makes it look like you are willing to give action. This really is more important in live games where you are at the same table with the same players for hours. A yes I would have called would probably have been an easier answer. You are a pussy my friend.

In my pussified defense... I've actually done that to people..

Say I get a bad beat, and am stuck w/ like 1/2 stack... I get AA or KK next hand, I push... Most times someone will call...

on a related note. im sure this has been discussed elsewhere. but thought i would bring it up. what about the the guy sits down, its like his 1st or 2nd hand he raises all in [for maybe half the buyin] and you have something like JJ,TT,AK,AQ.... I almost always fold. and someone else calls and usually all of them have worse hands then me....

so:
1) is it right to call the "donkey" raise with these hands - with no read on the guy?
1-b - does position matter at all?

2) is it ever right to sit down at a table and do the "donkey raise " with AA or KK if its your first orbit there??

it feels like bad poker...but maybe im too narrowminded...
