Called a raise with KQ, check or bet?

Postby Stoneburg » Sun Oct 09, 2005 2:12 pm

*Disclaimer*
I don't normally call a raise with KQ but... it was a mini-raise, I have position, I don't respect the raiser... and they were soooooted!!

Heads up or 3 handed, I would bet the flop. In this case I probably wouldnt. Since you did and then caught the Q....I would probably keep betting the turn and river.

Bet $20 on the river. If he had a 5, you would know by now. He either has a flush draw, an 8, or something like 66, or 99

There's nothing wrong in calling that raise pf since it's a min raise by someone you don't respect and you were fortunate enough to get callers behind giving you odds. Don't bet this flop! WAY too many people, and you're playing at stakes where people just can't fold with draws or overcards (even JQ overs will call). Bet the turn, but I think check the river just to be conservative in case he was trapping you. You want to showdown your cards here, so why open yourself up to a bluff reraise, or a genuine reraise? I check behind thinking I'm ahead.

He showed [Ah] [4h] for the flush draw.

I wonder if betting the river might be more +EV at higher limits where I guess it's more likely that the opponent has a middle pair than a flush draw (people try to catch bluffs more and draw to flushes on a paired board less/more aggressively)
