what's your play on the river? utg is a loose bad player i've seen for a few orbits who bought in short. this is from memory (i've kept my commentary of the hand to a minimum so I don't give anything away):

UB $25 NL (.10/.25)

MP $20
UTG $24
Hero $25


Preflop: Hero is BB with , .
UTG raises to $0.50, some folds, MP calls, more folds, Hero calls.

I've seen UTG min-raise a few times w/ KT, Ax type of hands.

Flop: ($1.60) , , (3 players)
BB checks, UTG bets 1.50, MP folds, Hero raises to $5, UTG calls.

I should've led out here, but I checked w/ the intention of cr'ing and decided to go thru w/ it. I know, risky against a bad player, but I have the nice draw.

Turn: ($11.60) (2 players)
BB bets $8, UTG calls.

I wasn't ready to give up yet and fired. He took quite a bit of time to make the flop and turn calls. Definitely wasn't happy here.

River: ($27.50) (2 players)
BB checks, UTG bets $10.70 all-in.

Ok, he calls my flop cr, a big turn bet, so I don't think I can bet the 44. Perhaps I should've tried a blocking bet, but anyway, call or fold?

I think you lay it down. My intitial reaction is he is on a flush draw, and the river card just gave it to him. I like the check raise on the flop. But I am probably done with the hand after that. Doesn't mean that is the correct play, just what I think I would have done.

I think it's a pretty easy fold, he may have a queen or more likely, the flush, I can't really think of much else he's playing that you beat. Also, I'm not sure if I like the turn bet, he called your check raise on the flop, not likely that he's folding here, and if he's drawing to the flush, he has more outs than you do.

I think its a fold. A few points: 1) This is a tricky situation where you can lose in all sorts of ways. Why push it here? They'll deal you two new cards in about 4 seconds. 2) I always like to bluff against weakness... not strength. Sure you have a nice draw, but you are semi-bluffing, and the other players are showing quite a bit of strength/resolve. I say push the next button.

My guess is he has a flush or a higher PP than yours (something like 77-99) and doesn't know if he's bluffing or valuebetting. Either way you're beaten and should fold. However, the pot odds are huge at 1:3.7 so I can understand your reluctance to fold... still, would he have called all this way with something you can beat (like KT, AJ...)?

thanks for the feedback. i just wanted to make sure i wasn't on drugs when i folded getting almost 4:1 against a hand I couldn't really define. i really wanted to call, but man, there was absolutely nothing i could beat...except for the [8s] my opponent showed. talk about smooth calling. I was so confused that I didn't know whether to go on tilt or not.

as for the play up to the river, yeah i'm not too crazy about it, but i'm ok w/ it. it's not something i try often. obviously i didn't know he was that much of a calling station.
