BTP with a Calling Station?

Postby T-Rod » Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:41 am

Of course, I suscribe to the theory of BTP to steal the pot even when you miss.

However, I tend not to do this against a Calling Station unless I get at least some portion of the flop. What do you do?

Problem...Not betting the pot ruins my approach which is: having the table know I'm stealing a lot, players start disbelieving my strength, and then they really pay off one of my made hands.

Thoughts?

I do exactly that, trodgers, and it has proven effective in stealing small pots in sites like stars and Absolute where the game is a lot better than Party or Prima. I do it anyway at both of them also, but with the only intention of having an image. I sometimes keep the aggression until the turn, bu against the calling station I sometimes check the flop because it s really useless for other thing than creating the table image of a stealer.

I bet the Calling station sometimes, sometimes I save the money. :) When you do it, keep in mind that you might be giving that money to the table for your image´s sake.

You know.... there is an adage that says, "Don't Bluff A Calling Station.".

But you have to ask yourself is he going to call you down with any two, in which case you should try to get to showdown cheap. Is he a calling/bluffing station where you should probably fold with nothing and raise the turn with solid hands and up your criteria for preflop raising. Is he going to fold nothing call with any piece? You should fire once and chill.

So how much of a calling station are they?
