Boring KK hand

Postby Kalle » Tue Apr 26, 2005 1:17 pm

I dont expect too many responses on this one. I haven't played 2/4 in a while and I was very worried when he called my push very fast. I didnt know what to do on turn (the jack of spades was very scary) but I thought a check would be the wrong move. Surprised when I checked hand history.
Villian is 2+2, good player (that was what I thought before the hand), lag.
Would appreciate if Stelvask would comment since he was at the table.

2+2 is another poker forum where alot of the middle to high stakes players seem to be very arrogant. Alot of them are very good too of course. But Ive recently played against a few of the regulars there and been shocked by their play.

What was your image at the table? I would only imagine doing those calls against a complete maniac, since you reraised preflop, which suggested AA,KK,QQ,AK. Did he see you overplaying some weak hands? Weird play.

I have another question. How many times do you guys get all in? I see so many examples on this board from ice and others where you get pretty fast all in. I only play 50NL at the moment, and thought that going at higher limits people would be even less willing to go all in, and it would hapen less often. Can you make a comparison against lower limits (if you remember since you played them :D ).

I would say I get all in before the river about once every 175-200 hands. Some of these are against short stacks so its easier for it to happen obviously.

I think it probably seems like it happens alot because alot of those hands are the ones that get posted.

It was my first hand at the table. I played him before and I honestly dont know what he thinks of my play.

Yes it should be more difficult to get your money in at higher limits, but there are enough bad players out there. I dont get all my money in very often because I play tight.

A big difference between high/mid stakes and lowstakes is that players at the higher levels slowplay less and make bigger bets in relation to the pot. This way the money goes in before any scarecards fall and it happens faster. But if you watch the 10/20 at PS (which I sometimes watch) you will notice, that there are few all in's because the players there only go all in when they have a real strong hand. I have heard that the 25/50 game at UB is an action game where players are often all in.

I continued to play at this table after the KK hand and I lost my entire stack about an hour later when a player sat down and pushed all in preflop every hand (I posted about this in anything goes). But this is very uncommon for this game.

I think you played the hand perfectly.

And iceman, what do you think about leading the flop with the 88?
