Boat on the turn - 6 max $100

Postby pokerguy67 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 7:05 pm

What to do?

Party Poker (6 max, 5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB ($256.25) with [5d], [5c]. Villain ($189) is UTG. Villain limps,
1 fold, Hero checks.

Flop: [5h], [Ac], [6s] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets [$3].
Villain raises [$8].
Button folds, SB folds. Hero calls.

Turn: [As] (2 players)
Hero checks. Villain bets [$10].
Hero raises [$45].
Villain raises [$90].

Hero?

Is this read dependent? If so, what to do if Hero's read on Villain is:

1) V is a sophisticated, clever player;
2) No read; or
3) V is a typical Party Poker $100 NL player (i.e., shmuck).

Interesting little situation here, The hands your scared of are 66, A5, and A6. I don't think you can discount A5 or A6 because A5 and A6 suited are limping hands and some bad players still limp with A6 or A5 more so at 6 max then full tables.

I don't think I can lay this hand down though since he will have Ax hands so often here. I'd just call the turn and get it all in on the river unless an A or 6 hits you'll have to fold.

The play doesn't change much for me depending on my opponent, I still call on the turn and get it all in on the river, but I'm just more confident in my hand against the typical party moron.

I'd like to say that I could have read your opponent and folded the turn, but I doubt I could have folded a full boat there even when things say you should.

I'd like to hope I'd check/call the turn and try to slow it down a bit.

Well, that makes me feel better. I still think I made a mistake, but I'm not all that confident I wouldn't make the same one again. I suppose if your biggest leak was that you were unwilling to lay down a boat on the turn with two aces (and no other pair) on the board, you could live with that. :) Now, if I could only fix all those other leaks ...
