Bizarro 5/10 NL Hand - Make this call?

Postby droqqa » Mon Apr 11, 2005 4:18 pm

Well, the hand was pretty standard, up until my opponent went all-in on the river. All I could think was - "Either he has a set and played me perfectly, or he is an idiot and this is a horrible bluff with a missed flush." Since his stack was less than 1000 to start, I went with the latter. I was right. :D. Anyone fold this river?

I would call also. Theres no way hes going to check a set twice especially with a flush draw on the board. If he was bad enough to check the set twice then surely he would check raise the turn.

Thanks ice -

The funny thing is, he could have went all-in at any other time and I would have folded. As soon as the K came off on the turn, I thought -

"Dont call a pot sized bet here. Its obvious I have AK and anyone that leads into me could care less about the King. In fact, if its checked to me and I bet the pot - if someone comes over the top, I'm folding."

Once he calls the turn - All I can think is - he has to have a flush draw here. A set would have raised by now.

The A comes off and he goes all-in? WTF? It was so strong of a play that I had to think twice. The way I played my hand, I might as well have turned my cards over. The only legitimate hand I could put him on was [Ac] [6c], with the river giving him two pair - AKA plan B.

The Ace didn't make his hand that beats yours, we know that much. Which means he is either bluffing or had you crushed all along. Is he capable of checking a set twice? He would have to be overly tricky to pull that move. The only thing that makes me think he could have had a set is that since he is in first position, he might expect someone to bet out if he checks the King. Checking the flop would be pretty standard in his position.

Regardless, he makes that move with a failed draw (89, clubs, etc) way too often for you to fold. Easy call IMO.
