Being bet into after raising preflop - what to do?

Postby rush » Wed Aug 10, 2005 4:10 am

If you guyz open with a solid bet preflop in MP/LP and get 1+ caller OOP, and your read is that he'll call OOP only with low-mid pairs.

How do you deal with the situation when said player bets into you on the flop?

Say you do get a piece of the flop, like TPTK or hold a pair like >TT.

I suppose continuation-type bets (with no improvement) are out of question with AQ-AK hands.

Please advice - I seem to loose a lot in these situations...

I think you need to take a stand whenever you hit the flop or have a big pair. Otherwise you'll simply be bet out of a lot of pots - sure, you'll pay thru the nose when the OOP guy has his trips.

But you just can't fold when you actually hit the flop nicely (TPTK).

just my thots,

For me the two most important factors are the size of his bet and any read I have on him. Other factors are my table image.

If he bets 2/3 or greater relative to the pot he has a hand or wants me to think he has a hand. However I would almost always raise with TPTK even given a decent bet. This is a raise for info. He will almost never fold, unless it was a pure bluff, but if he calls me I get two things... I know he doesn't LOVE his hand, and I can now read a whole lot from his action on the next street. If he leads out again and I have not improved, well then I have to give it up. If he checks then I can try to steal it.

Of course if he comes back over the top of my raise I am pretty much done with TPTK. I will lose some money on it, but not my stack.

Also don't forget the blocking bet. A small bet into the raiser can mean a draw or middle pair. Punish there people.
