Bad fold here? TPGK

Postby AlamedaMike » Tue Oct 25, 2005 1:23 pm

For review - was this a good fold? I now think it was a bad fold.

FullTiltPoker Game #265005252: Table Carter - $0.25/$0.50 - No Limit Hold'em
Seat 1: justlucky7 ($23.90)
Seat 2: panther07 ($27.15)
Seat 3: benzer ($20.50)
Seat 4: AlamedaMike ($100.85)
Seat 5: RedScorpion ($75.10)
Seat 6: wycklendt14 ($24)
Seat 7: LuvToPlayPoker ($54.25)
Seat 8: pgriv ($62.65)
Seat 9: madsemann ($60.30)
wycklendt14 posts the small blind of $0.25
LuvToPlayPoker posts the big blind of $0.50
The button is in seat #5
*** HOLE CARDS ***

Dealt to AlamedaMike [Kc] [Qh]

pgriv calls $0.50, 4 folds, AlamedaMike calls $0.50 - should I have raised here?

2 folds, LuvToPlayPoker checks

*** FLOP *** ($1.75) [8s] [9h] [Kh]

LuvToPlayPoker checks, pgriv checks, AlamedaMike bets $1.75, LuvToPlayPoker calls $1.75

pgriv folds

Why did he call a pot size bet? Draw? Flush or straight. Top pair weak kicker.

*** TURN *** ($5.25) [6d]

LuvToPlayPoker checks

Not a bad card unless he has [Th] [7h] or [7h] [5h]

I wanted to shut down any draws so I overbet the pot by 15%.

AlamedaMike bets $6

LuvToPlayPoker raises to $12 - OUCH

AlamedaMike has 15 seconds left to act, AlamedaMike folds

My first instint is to fold when I am checked raised when I only have top pair. He said he had the straight but that would mean that he limped with T7 or 75 and then called a pot size bet. He could have caught 2 pair or been semi-bluffing with a draw.

Comments on the fold?

On reviewing this hand myself, i think my misstake here was to bet too much on the flop - should have bet $1

then the pot would be $3.75. The Turn bet should have been about $2.50.

The pot would be $5.75. If he mini-raises to $5.00 I could call to see the river.

If he checks, I check.

Thanks - I have been giving this hand some thought since it happens a lot. I think a check on the Turn was the best play as you said.

If the River has no completed obvious draws [h] or straight card then I can call a small bet or even check behind on the river.

I tend to think that playing small pots with TP is better.
