Baby set turned boat...

Postby MVPSPORTS » Thu Sep 22, 2005 11:06 pm

Did I play this too aggressively...? Obviously yes, as I scared him off... But, what do you guys think would've been a better line here...?

I probably just call the turn as you're way ahead here and the only river card that would scare you is another 3 or 7. If either of them is on a flush draw and another diamond hits the river you have a good chance of getting paid off quite well too.

i don't think there's anything wrong w/ the mini-raise. the pot is what, $15, genius in mp bets $3, you raised to $8. hardly a huge raise; a flush draw (which there may be 3 of) can still call that.

and raising gives you a chance to win a huge pot. i mean, i can definitely imagine it then going: call $8, call $8, call $5, and you've got a ~$50 pot against 3 opponents with still one round of betting to go. if the bet was like $6, i would probably smooth call. but $3 is just too little.

Gotta raise it. He's betting into you, if he has a draw make him pay a little more to see it but not too much. It's hard to put him on a hand where his play makes sense. Maybe a weak overpair? If he has like 99, you want him to pay to see the next card because if he catches he can beat you and that'll be expensive.

I just call that turn but perhaps for a different reason.

I'm going to call that turn a lot of time with not so great a hand, and I might pop an opponent who leads weak on the river.

Here I'm going to of course pop him on the river and it'll give my later steal attempts more credibility.

90% of the time I will play it like this, raising the turn. So many morons with AA/KK will think you're bluffing them and even push all in. You can just call to vary your play, to use the rope-a-dope strategy, but that's the only reason. The fact that you folded doesn't mean you did anything wrong there.
