AQs - tough

Postby AlamedaMike » Fri Sep 16, 2005 1:27 pm

I made 2 mistakes on this hand.

1) I called a raise with AQ which I seldom do.
2) I was playing 2 tables and I thought that gandolph93 raised (why was this a mistake. He checked after a player checked and I think he would have bet if he raised preflop and he could beat a Queen. So I bet. )

FullTiltPoker Game #220430038: Table Chris Ferguson - $0.25/$0.50 - No Limit Hold'em - 2005/09/16
Seat 1: A-Mess ($71.35)
Seat 2: Sudzy8 ($43.45), is sitting out
Seat 3: gandolph93 ($40.15)
Seat 4: AlamedaMike ($54.60)
Seat 6: Busa ($42.65)
Seat 7: readster ($15.15)
Seat 8: fool533 ($49.35)
Seat 9: Duffinboy ($59.70)
readster posts the small blind of $0.25
fool533 posts the big blind of $0.50
The button is in seat #6

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Dealt to AlamedaMike [Ah] [Qh]

Duffinboy folds, A-Mess raises to $1.50, gandolph93 calls $1.50, AlamedaMike calls $1.50, Busa folds, readster calls $1.25, fool533 calls $1

*** FLOP *** [Qs] [4h] [6c]

3 checks, AlamedaMike bets $7.50, 2 folds

A-Mess raises to $20, gandolph93 folds

No way am I calling this.

AlamedaMike folds

I said nice bet, you caught me bluffing.

He said he had a set and hoped that I had an over pair.

I said nope - BU&M - If I had AA or KK I would not have called, I would have raised preflop. That means that I have TPTK or a set in order to bet after 3 checks. So, I think the CR was a bad play for him if he had a set. I fold my TPTK and raise all in with a Set.

I actually beat him on 3 other hands where he did not have what he was representing - I now think it was more likely than not that he was running a bluff and my Q was good.

you really didn't play badly here.

Your hand was suited and for 3x the BB and a multiway pot, you're getting the right price.

After you make your nice sized bet on the flop, you know you're beat when you get raised..so you get out of the pot with little damage.
