agonizing river decision w/ trips, sb v bb

no notes on sb through several orbits, so i thought he was probably solid.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.50 BB (9 handed)

SB ($122.80)
Hero ($69.65)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Ac], [Kh].
7 folds, SB raises to $1.5, Hero raises to $4.5, SB calls $3.

Flop: ($9) [Ah], [Ad], [9d] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $7, SB calls $7.

Turn: ($23) [Js] (2 players)
SB bets $23, Hero calls $23.

River: ($69) [Qd] (2 players)
SB bets $40, Hero ?

man those last two cards were bad. i have $35 left. it is a little more than 3:1 to call (actually ~pi:1, which is kinda cool). what to do? and what about the turn?

I would fold....you have to be beat. What would he be betting like this that you can beat? At best you can hope for a split pot when he shows AK as well. AQ, AJ, QQ, JJ, 99 all beat you. I think I fold to the river bet....but i might have just pushed all in on the turn. That is probably a bad play as well given the only thing I am beating is AJ....maybe KK who is bluffing trying to represent an A (doubtful)

My thoughts: I don't like your call on the turn. I'm either folding or pushing (in this case, against a solid player, I'm leaning toward folding). He knows you like your hand, but he's representing a monster. Basically he's telling you: "Screw you and your big bets - you can't beat me!") :)

You know he's going to come out swinging on the river. You're not going to get a cheap showdown, so if you decide to play the hand until the bitter end, you might as well be the aggressor. Get your chips in there or get out.

i actually like my call on the turn. i think ppl are too eager to shove their chips in a situation like this when it gives an opp the chance to fold a dominated hand. i'm not that concerned w/ protecting against any draws ([Kd][Qd] the only drawing hand i can see him having here). and imo the fact i bet the flop disguises my A, so i didn't at all consider folding there.

so i smooth called knowing i might be slaughtered by AJ or JJ, but also knowing he can be leading the turn (for pot, btw) w/ KK, QQ, AQ, or even Ax trying to push me out. i fully intended to call the rest off at the river...however the worst possible card came off and i was put to my decision.

I fold here, almost all possible hands beat you. And I agree with maja, raise/fold the turn.

I'm raising that turn like a submarine that's blown its tanks.

I don't think he has AJ. If you had just turned the full boat, would you btp?

Raising the turn also charges for any flush or str8 draw.

As you played it, I probably fold.
