Even better is controlling the pot with position if possible on your two pair hands... It is part of the reason that position is so important, it allows you to check call a reasonable bet or check behind when the draw hits.
No harm in making a call when a draw hits, but losing a monster pot when obviously beat stings. Something that might help is knowing your price for this current hand vs. this opponent should something nasty hit the board. If you win or lose you won or lost your price and didn't get overzealous. If you win and it was under your maximum price it was still fair value of the hand to the board.
Sure that is the basis of tight passive play, but the weak ones set the price way too low, the broke ones (loose passive) set the price too high. There is nothing wrong with getting defensive in a hand sometimes.
